Re: Travel Around Australia and New Zealand

Hi hojoos, I'm a bit confused about your mention of Cairns and Sydney together, as both have international airports, but are 1980 kilometres apart (as the crow flies). :? Furthermore, Halls Creek and Wolfe Creek are in the far northern part of Western Australia, 3,400 kilometres distance from Cairns...

Re: Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love, film by Nick Broomfield

For Melbourne based folk, or those within striking distance who would travel to catch it (and perhaps other festival films) on the big screen, this doco is being screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival on two days: Tues, Aug 6th; Sat, Aug 10th. 8) http://miff.com.au/program/film/marian...

Re: The Future of our Hydra Meet-Ups

Jarkko and Eija, thank you so much for your splendid efforts over the many years to keep our meet-ups happening... you always could/can be relied on. 8)

Thank you to Caren and Hans for taking over this challenging role... I wish you well with this responsibility.

Cheers,
Andrew D. :)

Re: Half the Perfect World - Writers, Dreamers and Drifters on Hydra, 1955–1964

Having read the book and been totally engrossed by it, I'm really looking to this movie production. 8) It will be interesting to see whom they cast in the various roles... and I just hope they try to ensure (as far as is possible) that it's a Canadian young Leonard look-alike who undertakes his role...

Re: Esther Ofarim

A friend of mine recently unearthed Esther singing 'Cinderella Rockafella' and shared this with me. :D I then remembered Esther's face was somehow familiar, realizing that this was so, not because I had seen her doing covers of Leonard's songs, which are fantastic renditions I've now been privy to 8...

Album cover reproductions

A Cohenite friend of mine, Grant Telford, whom some of you will remember from the Berlin Event in 2006, has created a number of beautiful stained glass acetate print reproductions of various artists' album covers, including a few of Leonard's, as per the attached photos. 8) He sells them for £20 eac...

Re: Leonard Cohen Saves Lives

Hi Brucester, thanks for that poignant personal story and I sincerely hope Susan continues to cope in this way. I’ve always felt that many outsiders to Leonard’s music, who just don't get it for whatever reason, often call it depressing and ally it with suicidal thoughts. However, for me it’s the wo...

Re: 26th January 2019

Thanks Alan, a great report and what a well organised and happy occasion, with it being a 10 years anniversary of the Leconfield Vineyard concert too. 8) :D

I'm sorry I couldn't get along to join you all for this. :(

Cheers,
Andrew :)

Re: Australian Author Tweets re Leonard Concert.

Hi Greg,

I was at that remarkable Hunter Valley concert at Bimbadgen Winery on January 31st 2009 that Peter FitzSimons refers to (though I didn't run into him). 8)

It was certainly the best concert of my life, but for reasons I won't go into. ;-)

Cheers,
Andrew :D

Re: Half the Perfect World - Writers, Dreamers and Drifters on Hydra, 1955–1964

Hi Greg, that's a nice connection you've made with Paul. :D I've also got my copy of the book and must say it sure is engrossing reading. Although I've just browsed through bits of it and have yet to finish it from cover to cover, it seems to have lots of information about that remarkable bohemian g...

Also, the Open Mic session itself will be held between 16.00 and no later than 18.00 (but preferably finishing before then, to allow time before the evening program). 8)

Cheers,
Andrew :)

Re: Open Mic - Budapest 2018

Dear performers, Just so as you know in advance, we will be having our 'sound check' at 11.30 on Saturday, at the main venue, the Budapest Jazz Club. This is scheduled before the boat cruise at 13.00, but might encroach upon earlier walking tours. Just let me know if you can't be there for this, eit...

Jazzy Hallelujah on keyboard

This cover version of Hallelujah has a jazzy keyboard arrangement. 8) It is performed by a work colleague and friend of mine, Shannon Green. When I first heard it, just last night, I was suitably impressed and felt it deserved to be aired here on the Forum: https://youtu.be/JDsT_SWhm48 Enjoy! Cheers...

Re: Open Mic - Budapest 2018

Hi there friends in celebration, This is just a gentle reminder that our Budapest event is just over 7 weeks away, but at this point we only have four performers who've put their hand up for Open Mic. Don't be shy, demonstrate your talent in this friendly non-judgmental environment, one that appreci...
