Re: Listen to "Almost Like The Blues"

The thing is, digital instrumentation can be done well, only problem is Leonard's Casio is from a flea market sale out of the 80s. His sounds sound like 1980s midi file karaoke. I am not advocating upbeat music, or super glossy production. He can do digital music for all I care, but he needs to mode...

Re: Listen to new Leonard Cohen song

I feel like there was progress made regarding the production when Old Ideas came out. He finally had a better sound with some actual live instruments. "Almost Like the Blues" feels like a regression. The production is just not good. compare Leonard's song to Beck's "Heart is a Drum&qu...

Re: Beck's Record Club covers Songs of Leonard Cohen

Winter Lady was uploaded today. I think it will make all you happy who thought he wasn't taking the songs seriously. And beck is front and center on this cover! http://www.beck.com/record_club By the way, I gotta admit, I really liked Master Song. I thought it was a lot of fun. Kinda gave the somg a...

Beck's Record Club covers Songs of Leonard Cohen

A couple of months ago Beck started Record Club. Basically, he gets a bunch of friends together and they pick an ALBUM to cover in ONE day, and without any prior rehearsal. For the first edition Beck, along with Nigel Godrich and others, covered the Velvet Underground and Nico. Once a week (every Th...

Re: MONTREAL (JUNE 23-25)

I had a wonderful time. I never expected the concert to be 3.5 hours!! What a treat! I'm a yong guy, 26 years old, and even my eyes got a little watery on a few occasions. i was so happy to see Leonard play Avalanche on his own like he used to do. I wasn't expecting it, and it was certainly a treat....

Yeah, This is pretty lame. I bet scalpers found a way to get all the tickets. That would suck.

From Beck Hansen, aka Beck When Beck was asked about the bleakness of "Cold Brains" (and most of Mutations), he said he actually found the lyrics to be funny: "I don't know. I think of it as mostly playful, but then I think Leonard Cohen is a humorous song writer. In "Cold Brains...

Illuminated Fate Slowly he begins to fade into his own abyss where water-wheels of silver cleave under the nightly hiss No postage stamp, no telegram will show you where he is unless of course you find a map lit by a darkened kiss The appetites of love have come to drown you with their weight The g...

Dreams of Faded Blue

last night I slept
like many sleepers do
curled up like a kitten
with dreams of faded blue

with dreams of faded blue
I slept through the night
thinking only of you
like many sleepers do
who wish to make the morning right

I saw the movie this afternoon. I gotta be honest, I was a little underwhelmed. I didn't like how you just got these small little snippets of Leonard talking. I felt like there was no continous story or thread connecting anything. It was just Leonard talking about some random little thing for a minu...

I always thought Beck would be a great fit to produce one of Cohen's albums. Beck is a huge fan, and I bet he could get Leonard back to his acoustic guitar. There are few people today that come close to Beck's quality of acoustic-base music. I saw someone mention Nigel Godrich. He's a good pic as we...
