Re: Leonard fans should watch Mr. Mercedes (also, a bit about Stephen King)

In addition to the soundtrack there are other LC easter eggs in the show... So don't just listen, keep your eyes open! (Again, don't want to spoil it until asked, although I probably won't remember all of them at this point, and suspect that I didn't catch all them that might be there anyway.)

Has anyone else here caught the Leonard Cohen easter eggs in this show yet?

Leonard Cohen Easter Eggs in Emily St. John Mandel Novels

Don't know if this really counts as "news," but couldn't figure out where to place it, so moderators, please feel free to move it to another section! I discovered Emily St. John Mandel not too long ago and have now plowed through four of her five novels. Two of them have small but definite Leonard C...

Re: Statement from Cohen Estate: Unauthorized use of "Hallelujah" as finale to Convention Festivities

That is a quite brilliant statement. Yeah, it makes me laugh over and over. The author of that response certainly captured a bit of the classic Cohen humor there. Unfortunately the people who need to read that response won't. Or if they do, let's face it, they simply won't understand it. Here it ho...

Re: RNC use of "Hallelujah" as finale to Convention Festivities

the webmaster should stop this thread. it is becoming too politically opinionated, and that is no way to encourage interest in leonard's music. Unfortunately we are being dragged back into a world where politics are of upmost import. Suggested readings: In the Garden of Beasts, The Splendid and the...

Re: Montreal Leonard Cohen Memorial Commemorative Box Set

Wow, even with the discount that's just too rich for my blood unfortunately. It's great that this is for charity, and it looks like a lovely set, but here is hoping the release a crappy non-collector's version I can buy later on for a more reasonable price. I care about the content, not the exclusiv...

Re: Leonard fans should watch Mr. Mercedes (also, a bit about Stephen King)

I finally had to time to finish the first season of Mr. Mercedes (I tend to save shows I really enjoy until I can watch them with my full attention) and was absolutely delighted with the Leonard Cohen easter eggs throughout. I can't recommend it enough to LC fans, but as before, I really can't say m...

Re: Waiting For The News To Come

A complete boxed set on Vinyl would be, wow, fantastic. I already have quite a few of them on vinyl, but a complete set would be amazing.

I'm waiting impatiently while I sip coffee from my Cup of Longing.

Someone is not convinced.... https://www.npr.org/2019/11/21/781542909/leonard-cohen-and-harry-nilsson-are-releasing-new-albums-whether-they-like-it-or I had initial misgivings, followed by real hope with the release of The Goal and What Happens to the Heart, but in the end I do feel that my initial...

Will Hodgkinson in The Times : Friday, 22nd November 2019 ALBUM REVIEW | POP Leonard Cohen: Thanks for the Dance review — in his final days one thing was on his mind: sex ★★★★★ Posthumous albums are rarely a good idea, but this one is different. When Leonard Cohen was dying he recorded a handful of...

Re: Posthumous album

There is no doubt I was anxious about this when I first heard about it. But these first two releases have assuaged my worries. I think they both sound like they treat Leonard's vision with the respect that is due. I actually like both videos. Something I rarely do, even when it is Leonard. The only ...

No one to follow and nothing to teach Except that the goal falls short of the reach Oops. Well I edited this whole post because I had misread the line as "the reach falling short of the goal." What happens when I try to put thoughts together the morning after a night out. I will have to put some ef...

Re: "Thanks for the dance" - the new album

It's nice that the lyrics are "except that the goal fell short of the reach." Leonard sometimes, heartbreakingly, questioned his own talent ("Needless to say, I am one of the fakes, and this is my story"). The first time I listened to this I expected that so strongly that I swear I heard "except tha...

Re: "Thanks for the dance" - the new album

I absolutely love "The Night of Santiago", it's another translation of a poem by Lorca (think "Take this Waltz"). I can't wait to hear it!
