Re: Ish-ra-el's Reply
Mat states that "poor innocent, beguiled King Dave" could not be the culprit. I believe that L.C. would agree with you. In Chelsea Hotel he describes himself as "oppressed by the figures of beauty" , In Aint no Cure for Love he sings: I don't need to be forgiven for loving you so...

Re: Dear America
Hi Lizzy,
I tried to make terror a state of mind, not necessarily maleovant or benevelant.(sp) It's always been a part of the human condition. Like love, hate, anger, even boredom.
Let's try compassion

Re: Ish-ra-el's Reply
I am currently reading National Geographic's "Essential Visual History of the Bible".. which they describe as a who's who of the bible with vignettes.. It's a pocket sized book, approximately 510 pages, complete with beautiful illustrations. Imagine listening to Halleujah and not getting r...

Re: Dear America
Lizzy, Your comments are very interesting. My original piece had terror telling us that it had gone to a dr who told it to lose weight, needs more variety in its diet. Someone suggested I cut that out. Go Figure! I also added "I grow tired of your blood, flesh and bones." which I mistakenl...

Thanks Jimmy, mat.
"The Bible, the Biography", sounds like the sort of book I'm after. I'm looking forward to reading it . thanks for your recommendation.

Dear America
Dear America,
I see that we are cultivating compassion. We have the opportunity to convey the best of our best. Open your heart; let me in.

Re: The Red Flag
Thanks red poppy. What an appropriate poem for this fifth anniversary of mission accomplished. For those like me,unfamiliar with the poem/song , it is , according to Wikopedia, "The Red Flag" by James Connell, the song of the British Labour party, I don't know if it is true or not, but the...

Re: When you are old (WBYeats)
Hi mat. I agree with the philosophy you quoted. So many governments use poets and other artists for propaganda purposes. When US writers visited the Soviet Union in the thirties, many naively fell for the party line. Meanwhile, their artists were sent to Siberia. I'm sure this is true for other poli...

Re: Ish-ra-el's Reply
The twelve step equivalent to Jacob's wrestling with the man is "hitting bottom", but Jimmy puts it so much more poignantly. So much poetry and art work have biblical references. Mankind has wrecked havoc in the name of the God , but the Bible obviously inspires good works, gives solace an...

Re: Worst ever LC tracks
I like Bird on a Wire but I just want to add to this thread an interview with LC where he looks back on this song and comments on the line::
"I have saved all my ribbons for thee' or "I will make it all up to thee." wondering where did that came from?

Re: When you are old (WBYeats)
An old question from this thread: "Is nature fascist? " Survival of the fittest is fascist. Is nature fascist? Most of the time. But nurturing others brings out our best "nature"", I believe. Pound was imprisoned in Washington, D.C. at Saint Elizabeth's Institution for his f...

Re: Did Ya Cry?
The anguish and raw feelings in this poem remind me of a country song. I mean this as a compliment. Nothing brings on tears like a country song.
