Re: Books

I would check around on eBay and Amazon to find an average selling price for this. If I were you, I would hang on to it. I have a first edition Spice Box of the Earth that belonged to a library in Queens, NY. I cherish it because some of the rental dates coincide with Leonard's stay in NYC. It's iro...

Re: Live in Dublin Sound

I'm rather enjoying this release. For those of you with surround sound capabilities, check out your rear speakers while the video is played in surround sound. It sounds almost (almost) like a completely different concert to me. Maybe like an audience recording has been mixed in with the official sou...

Re: Live in Dublin Sound

With all due respect to those involved with this release, the audio of the clips I've listened to does sound a bit restrained as though they were recorded in mono. All sounds are pretty much equalized with one another. There seems to be no ambiance either. The sound in the Live in London and Songs F...

Re: Popular Problems on Vinyl

My vinyl arrived a while back and I have been enjoying it. I do, however, have a small concern with my copy and I was wondering if it has affected anyone else. There seems to be extra hiss in the background singer's voice in 'Samson in New Orleans.' This hiss is only within this song so I highly dou...

Re: The shadows: who, what do they signify?

Great question but it appears no one knows. When Old Ideas came out, I always assumed it was a photographer. Now I'm wanting to know!

Re: Popular Problems on Vinyl

Thank you for the information. I preordered through Amazon so that information may not trickle down to them.

Re: lyrics to Joan of Arc

This has got to be one of Mr. Cohen's best songs. I am currently reading a biography on Joan of Arc and find this song to be quite historically accurate. During her trial, Joan made the comment that she longed for her peasant life once more. With that being said, I don't think she ever regretted her...

Re: The Muse of Laboratory lithograph as giveaway with CD!

I did not know these posters were so desirable! My local record store had a stack of them as well as a bunch of cool LC bookmarks. I will see if they have any left next time I am in the store.

Re: Online streaming of Old Ideas (NPR, KCRW, etc.)

Does anyone know how the musicians can make money if they give their product away? :?: people like us will listen to the stream and still go out and buy the record, won't we? it's all brand awareness, i believe. I have listened to the streaming. I have converted the streaming into 10 mp3 tracks in ...

Re: Online streaming of Old Ideas (NPR, KCRW, etc.)

Crazy To Love You sounds like it could be an outtake from New Skin for the Old Ceremony. There are parts of it that make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I have been listening to the stream for over an hour now and have yet to make it past this song 8)

Re: Death of a Ladies Man

I rather enjoy Spector's Wall of Sound on this album. It is a stark contrast to Cohen's dark lyrics. It is reminiscent of Cohen's voice and female back-up singers. They compliment each other nicely.

Mat, really enjoy reading your posts and your choice of songs to dissect is very interesting and refreshing! Paper Thin Hotel helped me a lot during a recent break-up. Mr. Cohen's words are great healing tools.

Everyman's Library Pocket Poets

I was at my local Barnes and Noble bookstore this afternoon and, to my surprise, noticed that Mr. Cohen is now a part of this series! The book is 245 pages and features a nice mix of poems and lyrics from his entire career. They also had a new printing of DOALM but that was a tad out of my budget co...
