In his latest book Autumn Light Pico Iyer has this dedication:
In memory of Jikan, who showed me how to cherish the seasons
inside us——and how to seek out changelessness in change

Re: Leonard Cohen on Australian Radio
Had a listen to it myself. The ABC commentator quite rightly said it wouldn’t matter how you said it with a voice like that.
I’ve always wondered about the way he pronounces “iron cross” in Memories, emphasising the “r” in a way I’ve never heard before.

Re: The Flame-discussion thread
Joe, I appreciate your perspective on Leonard’s writing. I am waiting for my copy of The Flame but looking forward to sharing my impressions with others. It’s interesting you mention Yeats and Maude, maybe Leonard didn’t recognise his Maude, or saw her too late, or the timing wasn’t right? Then agai...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs
Blond Madonna, you are always one of my favorite posters and analyser of Leonard's poems and songs. Joe, you are way too generous, as usual. I have that 'broken feeling' today but so grateful that I met you and Anne in Hamilton (or is my memory crap and it was Toronto?) and that I made what seemed ...

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away
This is so sad. My thoughts are with his family and friends who, from what he said at his last public appearance, have provided him with all the love and support he needed.
We have his music and words to console us .... as they have always done.

Re: 10 legendary rock bootlegs finally likely to get an official release
This article seems to be some kind of beat up. Legendary poor quality recordings? LC's management or whoever have to release it by 2021 or lose copywrite? Does anyone really care? On listening to it all I could think was how quiet and polite Leed's students were compared to the uni concerts I rememb...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs
Like everyone else on this thread I am enjoying playing this album over and over again until the words are absorbed in my psyche along with the rest of his work. I have enjoyed reading all the different view points but feel conflicted with both agreement and disagreement with everyone. However, that...

Haha, spell check and predictive text are always my enemies.

Jealous! ... but then the weather was not as perfect last night as it was last week. Were the flaps closed and did the portable heaters work well? Just interested for future visits I intend to make.
Glad you had a good night. Btw the t-shirt's holding up well!

Re: Dear Heather 10(ish) years on
It seems DH has a similar reputation to DOALM so you are not alone in your thoughts about this album. I've seen them both ranked as the worst of his studio albums. I have been listening to his music for a long time and your perceptions do change with increasing familiarity and your own changing pers...

Re: Marlon Williams - Bird On A Wire
Thanks Andrew for finding out more information. My daughter knows this guy because another song of his (or rather his band 'the unfaithful ways')was played endlessly for the ABC promos for 'The Beautiful. Lie' and it got inside my head and wouldn't get out and she recognised his voice. He is differe...

Hi Dick,
I am coming to NYC in January so will be watching this thread for news. Would be wonderful if I could see Perla and Bob Metzger perform while there.

Re: Did I Ever Love You - "major misstep"?!
I love this song but I also think it's very sad, like he's singing to someone who has died.
I had the thought it might be for Roshi, something about leaning across the old table and the almond tree, spiritually symbolic, has withered.
But what Helen says also makes sense to me.
