Re: Leonard and e e cummings

Hi Michel, This may help you a little bit. The first link - https://www.npr.org/2016/10/21/498810429/leonard-cohen-on-poetry-music-and-why-he-left-the-zen-monastery is an interview by NPR with Leonard in which he mentions E E Cummings. That excerpt is below and appears to confirm Leonard has read Cu...

Re: Which Notebooks Did Leonard Cohen Use?

Well spotted, Lisa 8) And it made me go and look at my copy of The Flame published 2018 which those two pages are in on page 246 and I discovered a couple of other interesting notebooks but unfortunately, no actual brand name. On page 221 with no date there are handwritten poems on squared grid or g...

Re: Which Notebooks Did Leonard Cohen Use?

Hi Laurier, Welcome to the forum! I remember Leonard saying he used all sorts of notebooks including the inexpensive ones from chain stores. He did like the small spiral ones that would comfortably fit into his pocket for easy access when inspiration came but I can't remember any specific brand. The...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

I do recall comments made shortly before or after LC's death (I think by Patrick Leonard) indicating that work was going on to create music-only versions of some songs, a la ""String Reprise/Treaty" from YWID. Maybe someone (B4, are you here?) can track those comments down. Hi 4, Here you go :) htt...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Hi 4 and Vickie and all, I'm trying to answer your questions in conjunction with also relating to the title of this thread. There actually is an LC album we haven’t discussed here yet – the abandoned Songs For Rebecca recorded at Columbia Studio A or Sound Ideas Studio, New York, USA in 1974-5. It h...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Hi Curt, I'm tied up with things I'd rather not be at the moment and don't have much free time. Ha! coincidentally, as I'm typing this on the radio Freddie Mercury is singing a new undiscovered song just released today called "Time Waits For No One". A quick check of the web says - https://www.cbsne...

Re: Bruce Springsteen's new album - Western Stars

I’ve listened to this album for the first time today. “Hello Sunshine” I liked previously but “Moonlight Motel” for some undefinable reason is my favourite so far. I think it’s the time reflective quality about it. I love the line, “She was boarded up and gone like an unsung ( or old summer) song” ....

Re: Leonard's letters to Marianne for sale

Firstly, thank you Maarten for your generosity and the ease of access to these letters. Secondly, I struggled for a long while with wanting to download them and knowing they were not meant for me to see. I haven't read any yet and will just keep them tucked away to be read maybe at another time. My ...

Absolutely agree anny! Thank you for your best wishes :D EDIT: 07 June 2019 I am reminded that 10 years ago today I decided to give myself a slightly belated birthday present by becoming an active member of this forum. For over 3 years before that I was a guest just reading here. I'm so glad to have...
