Re: Lyrics or Music first

Does anyone have any reference as to whether Leonard Cohen wrote the lyrics first and then added music, or fit the lyrics into composed music. It seems the former, at least on the early albums that I am most familiar with. I tried searching the forums for this answer, so apologies if this has been ...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Hi 4, Thanks for the vote of confidence but I saw that post and thought there’s no easy answer to that question. I’ll post our words in that relative thread. Leonard has said that he regularly used a blend of music and words – melodies with poetry and vice versa in varying order to obtain the desire...

Happy to have some photos of mine here. My copy is arriving soon, through David, that other Cohen :-)
Mary, that's an interesting connection there for you!

LC's Favourite Books

I am aware of the interviews and know about the books they refer to in both links but I can't at the moment remember details of those interviews. No matter, it's nice to have a reminder of those books again here. https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/a-collection-of-leonard-cohens-favourite-books/ A collecti...

Re: Lorca's Poet in New York

Jean, Thanks again for your major efforts here! Glad you found “Little Ashes” helpful and the Spanish subtitles are indeed more appropriate. Vickie wrote: As for French, it is definitely the pronunciation that is kicking me in the butt. Vickie, I found the second IPA links I posted are most useful t...

Re: Lorca's Poet in New York

Vickie, always my pleasure to help! And I enjoy comparing those translations as well. Now that’s an interesting timing coincidence about us learning another language! I decided to start with German because I know it the least. Right or wrong, I've begun with pronunciation first and surprisingly I ha...

Re: Music You're Listening To

Kush,
I have to say that I laughed out loud at Waylon's (and yours in posting it) sense of humour with his song "Nobody Knows I'm Elvis" but forgive me, overall he just doesn't ring my bell

Re: NEW FILM: Death of a Ladies’ Man

Yes, Lisa indeed it does! Just the fact that Leonard gave his approval and that still continues makes you think it is definitely worth a look. Interesting to speculate how they will visually depict the songs - some images readily spring to mind :) Another link - He's your man. Gabriel Byrne for Leon...

Re: Lorca's Poet in New York

Jean, that is a massive effort! Many thanks for your time and thoughts! A few of those Spanish words are recognizable in English but most are double-Dutch to me ;-) Knowing what a word means literally translated is one thing, but knowing what Lorca meant when using it in context is another thing ent...
