Leonard Cohen's poetic influences
I have always been curious about Leonard Cohen hispanic influences. It's obvious that F. G. Lorca was huge for him. However, in one of his poems, he mentions having encountered the work of another titan, probably Spanish Language greatest poet: Cesar Vallejo (March 16, 1892 – April 15, 1938). Has an...

Re: RECENT SONGS ALBUM
Hello, Good point! There's almost no attractive title in LC's albums: Ten New Songs, Recent Soongs, etc, but again, he doesn't care. I bet "I came so far for beauty" could have made the trick. But now that you mention it, probably none of the greatest albums in history have a suggestive ca...

RECENT SONGS ALBUM
There's so much to look at and up an Leonard's work; that most of the time, it's precisely time the only tool we are left with to measure the impact of this man's work. Fort some reason, I have gone back to Recent Songs, and after having listened to and thought about it for over several days. I feel...

Re: I Came So Far for Beauty
Hello, Can Leonard go any deeper than here? have we not all (homos pensantis) been there? Great, that is definitely the song of songs. In a greater scale it makes me feel in a Napoleonic mood, "man of great ambition has sought for Beauty and have found Fame instead", and I would add, only ...

FYS
Antoni, I was lucky enough in my life to have visited Spain. I was in Barcelona and specifically in Sitges. it was on May 2004. I was taking part in the 2nd World Domino Tournament. I have been a pro domino player for many years and have written three books about the game: history, strategy, etc. Sp...

about language

FYS, Thank you very much. I hope all will be well in the end. Regino is one of the greates poets of cuba. Check this one out: by the way, where are you from? EL PUENTE Al amparo apacible de la tarde, un soplo vesperal besa mi frente mientras contemplo el postrimer alarde de la llama del Sol, que ape...

Thanx
Thanks FYS, I have been fancing what did Leonard Cohen possibly read from Vallejo that made him say something like that? Coming from LC every word counts. Maybe instead of "Take this Waltz" we could be listening to "I was born in a day God was sick" or "The Black Heralds,&qu...

Sorry, my post continues
I am sorry, my post intend continues here. As I was saying, what kind of LC we would have had had LC recieved Cesar Vallejo's influence. What leads me to this question is the fact that while both the Spanish and the Peruvian poet lived similar political lives. That of Cesar Vallejo's is deeper into ...

what if instead Lorca the influence would have been Vallejo
I am thinking that Cesar Vallejo is argueably the best Spanish language poet ever. What if LC had come to him first.
I know that he came across Vallejo later, still he said beautiful words about him (in one of his poems)
Well, it's open...

Thanks
Tom,
Thanks on such speedy answer. I would give anything to know what LC thinks of communist Cuba today. Anyways, I feel that whatever reason drew him here was more emotional than rational (ego thing?)

I am back
Lizzy,
Gald to be back. I hear you're going to Germany, you have already taken Manhatan?
No, you can't buy in the internet from Cuba and there's no shipment here (takes long to explain). Anyways, I think I have most his lyrics.

Mario

Here we go
Lizzy, Many a man would give it. I find so much class in forgiving. I would say the exact same words said by LC. However, our society is so machista that generally a double-crossed man would never be forgiven himself by his macho friends if he ever forgives a woman who has "betrayed " him....

Thanks Tom
Tom, I am glad to hear about the picture and I am hoping to be able to see it sometime. I have read all I have found about LC and Cuba but still that would just be a piece of the thing. What I want this country to learn from him is how to turn to someone in search of spiritual information, I want pe...
