Re: Vanishing Point

What a happy song! Even though I didn't understand the words it still comes across as happy. I have not seen the film but I will certainly look out for it. I really enjoyed 'Midnight Run.' Apart from being a gripping film, the dry humour in it made me laugh out loud. I still have the VHS video! Perh...

Re: Vanishing Point

Kush, I have to admit that I didn't notice at first but now that you have pointed it out it does clearly show. Perhaps I was aware of it subconsciously! :)

The time around 1971 was a good period for road films with 'Duel' and 'Two Lane Blacktop' also appearing.

Vanishing Point

There don't seem to be many film songs here so here is 'Nobody Knows' by Kim Carnes from 'Vanishing Point.' The film itself seems to have a cult following nowadays.

Hello John,

That must have been an unexpected Christmas present for you in several ways. What an enjoyable experience!

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Having seen my words, 'long ago and far away,' in my previous post they reminded me of a Harvey Andrews song with that title. Another sad song.

Re: Mercy Now -Kathy Mattea

Two lovely songs, Kush. There sems a similarity in the sentiments of both of them with traditional Irish songs of nostalgia and regret.

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

A Merry Christmas to you too, Diane, and thank you for the live clip. This Tom Russell and Katy Moffatt song takes me somewhere long ago and far away, although it seems like yesterday, to people who are no longer here. Bitter sweet.

Re: Mercy Now -Kathy Mattea

Hello again Kush,

What a sad but beautiful song and video. Thank you for posting it. I always associate Kathy Mattea with '455 Rocket' and still listen to that song occasionally. Slightly different from 'Mercy Now.'

Thanks for that, Kush. How could I forget that when I have the cd?! It brings us nicely back to Tom Russell again.

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Further to my previous post I have just remembered that there is another song by Marty Robbins associated with his El Paso story. Here it is. The whole set of songs makes an interesting group.

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Hello Kush, Thanks for the links. I had completely forgotten about Marty Robbins singing 'Tonight Carmen'. I have always enjoyed listening to him. In fact I still have 'Devil Woman' on an old 45 and I also have his 'Gunfighter Ballads' LP. The scenery shown in the second song is beautiful. One of my...

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Hello Kush,

I am hoping Dave Alvin will get over here before too long. Talking of Juarez here is another song about it by Gene Watson whom I feel is a vastly underrated singer.

I was actually at this show.

Re: Mary Chapin Carpenter - The Things we are Made Of

Hello Kush, Thanks for those Mary Chapin Carpenter links. I have got a number of her CDs from the 1990s but haven't got round to listening to them for a while. I got the impression that she seemed to have a lower profile in the early part of this century. I have not seen her in a live concert yet. I...

I remember Barbara from the LC chatroom. She was always friendly, humorous and knowledgeable. May she rest in peace.
