Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Hello Kush, The interview is about one hour and twenty minutes into the show if you can eventually get it. It lasts about twenty minutes. He discusses, briefly, his career with its various turns. The only song of his that is played is 'The Joshua Tree' with a discussion about it. It is an interestin...

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Real country music there, Kush. Very enjoyable. There is a programme on BBC Radio 2 this Sunday, 12th May at 15.00 with Tom Russell talking to Johnnie Walker in 'Sounds of the Seventies.' It should be interesting.

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

That outdoor concert of Tom Russell must have been a good experience, Joe. After Kush's mention of Merle Haggard I have just been listening to him singing 'Kern River'. It is a sad, haunting song.

Re: Johnny Cash: Forever Words

Marvellous videos, Kush! Both of them remind us of our own mortality. We are here for a brief moment in eternity and then we are gone; millionaires and paupers follow the same road. We play our part on the world's stage and then slip into oblivion. Fame and fortune cannot prevent the inexorable marc...

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Hello Kush,

I really enjoyed the video - the song and spotting the faces too. It reminded me of a tribute to Hank Williams sung by David Allan Coe, 'The Ride.'

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

I went to a Tom Russell concert last Saturday. It was the usual high standard with a very appreciative audience. He sang songs from his recent cd, 'October in the Railroad Earth.' I particularly enjoyed 'Highway46.'

It is sad to hear of Scott Walker's death. A very talented individual.

Re: Vanishing Point

What a happy song! Even though I didn't understand the words it still comes across as happy. I have not seen the film but I will certainly look out for it. I really enjoyed 'Midnight Run.' Apart from being a gripping film, the dry humour in it made me laugh out loud. I still have the VHS video! Perh...

Re: Vanishing Point

Kush, I have to admit that I didn't notice at first but now that you have pointed it out it does clearly show. Perhaps I was aware of it subconsciously! :)

The time around 1971 was a good period for road films with 'Duel' and 'Two Lane Blacktop' also appearing.

Vanishing Point

There don't seem to be many film songs here so here is 'Nobody Knows' by Kim Carnes from 'Vanishing Point.' The film itself seems to have a cult following nowadays.

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Having seen my words, 'long ago and far away,' in my previous post they reminded me of a Harvey Andrews song with that title. Another sad song.

Re: Mercy Now -Kathy Mattea

Two lovely songs, Kush. There sems a similarity in the sentiments of both of them with traditional Irish songs of nostalgia and regret.
