Re: The bee’s last journey to the rose

Hi Jack, thanks for the fascinating conversation/challenge :D 8) ...your fat and skinny Buddha business is an interesting and entertaining tangent...but in my Po post I thought I would simply let you get on with your story :) Interestingly, I have several Buddha's in my home, fat, skinny, thoughtful...

Re: The bee’s last journey to the rose

Hi Jack! Wow, long time... Yeh, San Juan is a champ. As is that little bee...in each of us.. ;) Poetically, since Mike's post above, I have been toying with the idea of the buddha in the bee, or more accurately, the bee in the buddha... ...the buzz the hum humming and om-ing in and out of the eterna...

Re: The bee’s last journey to the rose

hi Mike, yes, there is something beeishly otherworldly about both poems, while still being lost in the "now". I read your book....loved the way the dog avoided "existential angst"....so true  ...and this beautiful line, from your poem, Denial: "I won't look up so passers by can see all those th...

Re: The Flame-discussion thread

Hi Joe and All, Things have quietened down a bit on this thread, so I will add my opinion to the mix. I want to be blunt. I want to point out that this book The Flame is as much about Cruz as it is about Cohen. It oozes "Dark Night" and "Oh Living Flame of Love" by Cruz ...and in my opinion Leonard ...

Re: never-ending gallery

...you don't know what your labelling about, Geoffrey  He's not so much "thinking" as absent-mindlessly reflecting and moving toward contemplating a whole range of pasts.. he is connected to the dis-connection sauntering through unholy lands and he hasn't landed yet "I set out one Night but...

Re: To the Lady in White

12 minutes is a very long time for anyone to concentrate in the 21 Sanctuary! So thanks for the heartfelt feedback and sincere effort Geoffrey; you seem truly inspired. Of course I am humbled by your generous multi-dimensional talents. I enjoyed this syn-thetic miss-quote from the Sue in you :) Fat ...

Re: To the Lady in White

Another proof that a poem is never completed. I have always had fun playing around with this idea. Mat, with all due respect, your rhymes are dreadful. Alan Alda (Sat Mar 29, 2008) I have worked on improving the rhymes a bit, but I'm not sure if it was successful. Well I suppose I am a sensitive, sl...

Re: The Flame: The Lucky Night!!!!!

Antipodean Tangents Leonard's poem "The Lucky Night!!!!!" took me back to Adam and Eve and Leonard Coen's search for meaning and longing for Unity and his affiliations with others "traveling light". My other reading has taken me to other places and I add this generalised summary below as food for t...

Re: The Flame: The Lucky Night!!!!!

Verse 5 Cruz' Dark Night is an 8 verse poem. Cohen’s “The Lucky Night!!!” is a 9 verse poem. With 4 verses above and 4 verses below, Cohen places his own totally original verse smack in the middle of his translation as verse 5. He makes it his poem too. Interestingly, Cruz wrote about 500 pages exp...

Re: The Flame: The Lucky Night!!!!!

7/2/19 (6:30 am) On metaphor and light-bulb Of course…of course…all words and expressed thoughts are merely metaphors; ways of alluding to a thought. Any story teller has to find a way to express what it is that is on their mind. • A writer uses words • A dancer uses movement • A musician uses sound...

Re: The Flame-discussion thread

Thanks, B4real, reading your post above reminds me again that we all approach Leonard's work in our own unique way. You paint, enthusiastically, with a broad brush. I have begun my "...mystery tour" in the Poetry Place, on the Leonard Cohen Poetry and Novels section Since I have focused heavily on o...

Re: The Flame: The Lucky Night!!!!!

3/Feb/19 Symbolism The Cover: (The Australian version) Let's go back to the Cover (of this book, The Flame) I'm looking at the printed title, Leonard Cohen, The Flame. The central image is The Burning Bush; "The Flame" (that does not consume...and exists on holy ground ) from Exodus, where Moses mee...
