Re: This Is Us

It was used to signal the episode's theme of seeing familial bonding and pressing past bubblegum culture toward the passion, even when painful, in life.

Leonard Joel Sings Billy Cohen

I just came across this release because it's being printed on vinyl by People in a Position to Know (PIAPTK) records. It's sounds crazy (and you maybe right ;), but it's a pretty awesome project covering Billy Joel songs as though they were Leonard Cohen songs. Here's the description from the label:...

Re: Leonard's manuscripts at Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library

I believe that all of the creative work is available to view (under the TF guidelines), but some of the personal correspondence is sealed until after Cohen's death.

The Silt Reader

As many of us here are interested in poetry and its reach from Cohen and beyond, I thought I'd post a link to a small press where I serve as co-editer, Temporary Vandalism Recordings (T.V. Recordings). We publish a small poetry magazine twice a year called The Silt Reader, as well as the occasional ...

I went to the screening in LA last night, and I have mixed feelings about it. The show opened with Perla (Bird on a Wire) and Julie (A Singer Must Die), both accompanied by guitar. Martha Wainwright then played 4 covers before the director was introduced, who then, in turn, introduced Leonard--who w...

I just visited the store today and picked up what they said was the last one. 20$ is sure a lot nicer of a price than 200$ on eBay :)

Leonard Cohen on Bookworm 22 June

In addition to having this month's book selection for the station, Leonard Cohen is scheduled to be on KCRW's Bookworm program June 22, 2006. Those in the Los Angeles area can listen on 89.9 FM, but the show is also available as a podcast and in streaming audio once it has aired (kcrw.com). It's a g...

Tour Rumours

A friend of mine works in the concert industry in the US and told me that a Cohen show they proposed at their venue this year was recently turned down because Cohen is working on putting together a full tour next summer. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I saw the Canadian film Saint Ralph a few weeks back, and it had a version by Gord Dowdie (or Downie? The guy from the Tragically Hip) that I thought was quite good and integrated movingly into the film. No soundtrack exists however and I have not seen any copies of it available in other formats. To...
