Re: Rolling Stones at 2019 NOLA Jazz Fest

Yep. It's worth a trip to NOLA-- during Jazzfest-- to skip the actual Festival & just catch a few of the performers in the various clubs around town. At night, when it's cool.
Being a redhead, standing in the broiling sun & feeling my skin cooking like bacon-- not fun!

Rolling Stones at 2019 NOLA Jazz Fest

Meh. The sets are typically 45 mins or less. But, hey, you pays yer money & takes yer chances. Who knows, Keith Richards might finally keel over. Who'd wanna miss that? Lots of other HUGE classic rock names this year. They should just call it a rock festival. Or smorgasbord. If you want a sampling o...

Re: Farewell to Barbara Cruickshank (aka Babz)

The memories of her are all very fond. Loved her birthday poems and her often times being a bringer of smiles and laughter. Hey Jack, Do you remember this conversation you & Barbara & I had? I will bring you gold apples And grapes made of rubies That have shown in the eyes Of the Prince of the bree...

Re: Farewell to Barbara Cruickshank (aka Babz)

Oh, no. Not dear Babs? I'm just now seeing this. How well I remember her poems and insightful comments on all things Cohen. As well, she & I would belly up to Bill's Bar & trade verses of The Rubaiiyat and The Ballad of Reading Gaol and De Profundis. From the Bible to Bukovsky, she was delightfully ...

Merton: Thanks for posting, though I can't access it either. But the very suggestion that the Bible--gasp!--might be the greatest influence on the greatest poetry and literature and music in western civilization ..!...these days elicits, at best, bewilderment, and at worst, outrage. I can't help rem...

Aretha Franklin covered Suzanne -- in 1972!

RIP Aretha. While tripping around the interwebs, reading tidbits about the Queen of Soul upon her passing, I stumbled upon this previously unknown fact. Did anyone else know she had recorded a cover of Suzanne back in 1972? I'm not sure what I think about it, though. She lends it her distinctive sty...

Well that was either weirdly wonderful or wonderfully weird, I can't possibly be expected to decide which, at least not without a shot of Stoly and a pickle. Thank you, darling.

Re: LC wins 2018 Grammy Award for You Want It Darker!

Best ROCK performance?? They still don't know where to put our Leonard, do they? But we know. He just can't be categorized. At. All. It has always seemed to me that the Junos are a bit more erudite, more lofty & intellectual in many ways, than the Grammys, as far as awards shows go. Those Canadian s...

Jeff Buckley: Just Like A Woman

Exquisite cover of the Dylan classic--ranks up there with his cover of Hallelujah, IMO. A great voice gone too soon.

Recorded 1993, apparently only released last year, and heard by me 5 minutes ago! Enjoy!

Janis Joplin memorabilia threatened: Hurricane Harvey

Entire city of Port Arthur, TX is flooded, according to mayor. 26 inches of rain in short time. The Museum of the Gulf Coast there houses a whole bunch of Janis Joplin memorabilia, including her famous psychedelic Porche, stage costumes, paintings, etc; also memorabilia of Big Bopper and numerous ot...

Re: rags of light

[quote=vickiwoodyard post_id=365325 time=1497217784 Most of us Cohenites are rather reclusive people. [/quote] So true, dear. But what an exquisite lonesomeness it is, when these bunch of heroes are bound together across the miles with Leonard's words and music. And always raise a glass to Jarkko fo...
