This clip reminds me of:
Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive, sung by Bing Crosby

You've got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between

etc.

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's poetry and novels

I love that although Alan has professed that he does not like listening to spoken poetry (or maybe it was reading poetry he didn't like), he so perfectly loves A Thousand Kisses Deep and has given us that awesome video. You are a conundrum Alan! The brackets have it! (Or should that be the parenthe...

Hi Holydove,
I would like to add my congratulations and express my admiration of your poem. I love it.
If your use of the word “shabby” is not as tongue in cheek as Leonard’s, it certainly should be.
I am in awe of people with a creative talent - you should share more with us.
Best wishes,
Alan

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Hi Vickie et al , I think you have expressed the eternal conflict as to whether anticipation savored is better or worse than a surprise immediately experienced. Do you prefer looking forward to the party or get a surprise for which you are totally unprepared? If you see the cake, do you want your po...

Re: Scott Walker RIP

I would like to add my name to the list of Scott Walker fans. I have delighted in his voice since The Walker Brothers and through Scott 1 to Scott 4. After I moved to Australia, I lost track of his work as his albums didn't ever seem to make it into my local record stores. He has been a magnificent ...

Re: Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love, film by Nick Broomfield

This is what my search revealed: https://www.eventcinemas.com.au/Movie/Jiff---Marianne-And-Leonard-Words-Of-Love#cinemas=22 Looks like November 10th at my local cinema complex. I have added it to my watch list (actually it's the only item on my watch list). Marianne.jpg Alan p.s. I just noticed that...

I searched for general cinema release in Australia, and got a hit for November 2019.
No more info than that at this stage.

Re: never-ending gallery

Hi Lisa, I have read the book and loved it. Much easier to "grasp" as a script that I had expected. And then ... the wonderful Postscript discussing the various sources that Frayn drew on to create this masterpiece. Thank you again for pointing me in its direction. I will read it again soon as I mus...

Re: never-ending gallery

Thank you again, Lisa. I have found the book on Amazon, but can I just check with you that it is written in novel form, rather than in script form. In my view scripts are meant to be performed by someone else for me to see and hear. I take your point about matinee and matin. I thought the same after...

Hi Geoffrey, I consult this thread occasionally for the same reasons as Lisa, to see any new artwork and to read any banter, you have a gift for both. As per your wishes I will not praise you for having these gifts, but I do thank you for sharing them. ... for the same reasons as Lisa , 4 and I pre...

Re: Hydra 2019: Daily Program

We have got as far as Athens. Pleased to report that Emirates Airlines has a Leonard playlist. Coincidentally I was listening to Alexandra Leaving as our plane flew over Alexandria. Sadly 10/10 ths cloud cover meant that I didn’t see the city. Heading to Hydra on Thursday. First time, so looking for...
