Leonard did seem to regard Tom Waits highly. Even wrote a poem about him in The Flame entitled "Dream Brighton". Well worth checking out.

Re: Leonard Cohen To Attend PEN NE Award, Ceremony To Be Web
I thought the webcast was awful. Sound was out of synch. Program was b o r i n g. Highlight for me was how gracious LC was when Shawn Colvin's guitar dropped. He left his seat to rescue it for her. Of course LC's few words of thank you were brilliant. Contrasted with everyone else who spoke, less w...

Cohen quotes Jay-Z in French language interview, Hilarious!
See at end of interview. Translation follows. Cohen also talks about his friendship with Tom Waits, about the possibility of writing novels again, and his love for Montreal http://www.lesinrocks.com/musique/musique-article/t/77023/date/2012-02-08/article/leonard-cohen-eternel-contemporain/ Leonard C...

Re: Unspoken Truths - LC ref. in Hitchens article
Heard the sad news today that Christopher Hitchens lost his battle with cancer. He was 62. I'm glad Leonard could be there for him in his last year of suffering.

Re: Leonard Cohen and Country Music (Nat'l Examiner 5/23/09)
I guess no chronicle of Leonard Cohen's connection to country music would be complete without mentioning Leonard's country classic "Bird on the Wire." This country song was recorded in Nashville Sept. 26, 1968 and has been covered by many country music stars including Johnny Cash and Willi...

These are just wonderful. I love this kind of art and it certainly puts a new spin on Cohen I've never myself seen in his songs before. Bravo!

Re: How many years?
For me I came to be a Leonard Cohen Fan in three stages. I heard him on a short lived late night talk show here in Canada called the Ralph Benmergi Show just before Leonard won his Juno Award for Best Male Vocalist in 1993. He perfomed with Benmergi's in-house band and sang "Closing Time."...

Re: Montreal
User Bluepoarch posted this a few weeks ago. I always thought next time I got to Montreal I would like to visit this church. Suzanne is my favourite Cohen song. This church inspired many of the lyrics. Have a nice time in Montreal! My favourite city. kalinowt The song was written about the harbor in...

Re: Leonard recites That is What I Heard You Say in new TV s
Hi Holy dove, Of course saints were human, but they are also represent a super-humanly high standard of morality, sacrifice and ethics. I would never think of Leonard Cohen that way. Good point though! It was very generous of Leonard to lend his incomparable voice & words to this commercial, whi...

Re: Leonard recites That is What I Heard You Say in new TV s
Hi Ken (adian) I agree people making comments on this forum shouldn't slag others for expressing their opinion. Discussion and disagreement are part of the normal discourse of any society. But what I don't understand is what everybody is getting so charged up about. Is Leonard Cohen a saint? Is he i...

Re: Leonard recites That is What I Heard You Say in new TV s
Although I agree with you in large measure... I don't know why, but I kind of liked it anyway. Guess I'll just go with it. :) I guess if there's one thing that being a Buddhist monk taught Leonard, it's the importance of shilling for Sony. Am I the only one not impressed by this? That was a very per...

Re: Hunting for a poem by leonard Cohen
Hi Hiten, As I was looking through my volume of Stranger Music the other day to see if I could fulfill your request, I sort of looked at about 10 different poems through Leonard Cohen's half dozen volumes of poetry written up until the 1970s that kind of fit your description. One of those poems was ...

Hi I don't know if this will help you but there is a thread dedicated to looking at some of Cohen's country music connections. Hope you can use some of the information anyway! http://www.leonardcohenforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14959 Hi everyone, longtime LC devotee and reader of this forum, fi...
