Re: BEST COVER VERSIONS OF A LEONARD COHEN SONG OF ALL TIME

My favourite LC cover album is "Strange Song: The Songs of Leonard Cohen" by Nadia Kazmi. Magnificant, or at least magnificently brave and original. Indie guitar rock, strangely full of vocal experiments and changes in dynamics, which shed a different light on our beloved verses. Strongly recommende...

Re: Event update

A big thank you to Eva and the Team for everything you did to make this an unforgettable weekend. And special thanks for introducing us to BoeBeck [BeckBoe? :)]. What a wonderful set of interpretations of (less popular) Lenny's songs.

First anniversary

Today is the first anniversary, one year since Our Man passed away. It seems to me that it was not a year distinguished by Leonard's absence. He has remained with us, and it feels good.

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

In the darkness of a seedy cinema theatre, somewhere in Yugoslavia, in the mid-70s. McCabe and Mrs. Miller. Rain and mud, desolation and loneliness. Then comes that voice. You will always be lonely, but don't be sad, "don't turn on the light, you can read their address by the moon". Thank you angel ...

Re: Janerik Lundqvist: his 3rd Cohen tribute album!

I received the record yesterday. More subdued than Janerik's first two LC records - and I don't mean this as a critique. Low-key approach to Cohen as a way of rendering all the wealth of emotions. Janerik and his people will wrap you in melancholy, but will spare you of sadness. Do listen.

Re: The Stranger Song: Leonard Cohen and McCabe & Mrs. Mille

A very interesting analysis, thank you for that. In your reading, Cohen's songs become a kind of blueprint for the movie's screenplay. I have a special relationship with the movie - watching it back in 1973 was where I first heard that bitter-sweet voice. And I always saw McCabe & Mrs.Miller as one ...

Re: PULA, CROATIA (Aug 2), ON SALE NOW!

Last week I sadly convinced myself that it is healthy to go offline occasionally. Woke up to the Pula info in a Serbian (!) newspaper. Anyway, 5th row in the VIP area. Not bad. I'll be back to Arena for the first time since 1975 (when One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong was my favourite). Looking forward to m...

Re: Vienna, Sept 24 and 25

Sound quality, cultural differences - well, it all matters to some extent. Though the latter is sometimes difficult to say from prejudices we sadly too often have about each other - I wouldn't love to have to say an evaluative word about Austrians or Australians, Brits or Bulgarians, or anyone else....

Re: Verräter

Eine gute Interpretation findet man im "I'm Your Man" Film. It is provided by the Man himself, so I assume we should take it seriously.

oldie album of the year

Beatles: Abbey Road

Every time I listen to the record's B-side (starting with 'Here Comes the Sun', for you young, CD-socialized people), I ask myself one and the same question: where the popular music would have gone had the Fab Four stayed together for a couple more years
