Intangible but nonetheless...
Real
Like nothing else in this life
It blots out the joy like a cloud
The sky
Darkens on a sweet summer morning
Thick and full and stifling
Like heat from a thousand ovens
And cold like the loss of a coat
In the snow
Pain.........
Enveloping, grasping, tightening
Smothering
Death
That does not die
But only
Hurts
And goes on and on without mercy
Until the next heartbreak.......
Comes
When you are not looking
And when you have
Unclenched your hands and sighed
In relief
It's then the devil in the corner
Of your eye stands front and center
Punches you senseless
And pulls the barely beating heart
From your breast
And steps on it......
And every pain that comes
In this life...............
Is greater than the last.
