Don't think you can pigeonhole/categorise people. A lot of people do a job to earn their living because they don't have a choice or healthy bank account.
I don't define myself through the job I do - would be sad if I did as I am an Administrator/PA. But I do, to a certain extent, enjoy where I am working and what I do.
In my past I've been an electronics tech, a general mechanic at a papermill [welder, millwright, plumber, electrician, technician], I've been an IT helpdesk tech, a subcontractor for IBM (qualixerv) and Dell for clients and also a Lazer Printer/Fax Tech. Now I'm just trying to make ends meet and greet friends. It's too terribly hard getting paid as an IT subcontractor and all the prep work brings the $/hr down to a minimum.
I've also helped a friend make pool cues. I did some sanding and lathe work on a few.
I don't do much at all now, but they let me do those things and I'm very happy about it.
