Tom it is quite noble of you to use the female pronoun instead of the male, however having chosen a sex for your poet you need to stick to it. You cannot keep changing it on alternate sentences. Then again maybe your hypothetical poet is a shemale."who is she?" - Well, teratogen, the thought entered my mind that a poet can be female as well as male, I know some female poets who really excel, and some of the best poets in this forum actually are female. To keep gender prejudice out of the paragraph I decided to switch from female pronouns to male, and back. (Not sooo unusual a technique...)
