Leonard's Hat
Re: Leonard's Hat
Ladydi, glad you discovered the unsuspected, underlying, sub-thread of this thread; welcome, and thank you for your contribution - set me to whirling again!
And how about - "So I knelt there at the Delta. . . ", or "I don't give a damn about the truth, except the Naked Truth" - (I've been wondering if Leonard added that line into Mr. Knight's song, because that is the one line that really sounds like Leonard - anyone out there know?
Yours in the Naked Truth,
Rachel

Re: Leonard's Hat
Hi all your dear friends,
Ohhhhhh ...... it started with such a soooo beautiful photo and with the hat or cap he wears ect.....
but where do we end ?
..... except the naked truth (be for real) at the end of the song I always burst into " Thanks for the song Mr. Cohen "

Holydove, (it's still not about the hat!)holydove wrote: And how about - [...] "I don't give a damn about the truth, except the Naked Truth" - (I've been wondering if Leonard added that line into Mr. Knight's song, because that is the one line that really sounds like Leonard - anyone out there know?
I checked the printed lyrics in The Future booklet, and there is no mention of that line (the whole thing, from the "I don't give a damn...", right up to the delightful, "Except the naked truth. Ohhhhh, yeaaahhhh!") I do love that part of the song! (especially the way he says, "Ohhhhh, yeaaaahhh"!) (I didn't get you whirling again, did I?

Cheers!
Lisa
Re: Leonard's Hat
Lisa, you are soooo naughty!
Thank you for the research; I'm sure if Leonard inserted that line, it would be mentioned in the booklet.
Regarding your quite accurate observation that "It is still not about the hat" (lol) -
Perhaps it is another symptom (or subtype) of Cohenphilic Personality Disorder, that some of us believe that the word "hat" (when mentioned in reference to Leonard Cohen) means "voice", "facial features & expressions", or "physical movement". So whenever someone says or prints the word "hat", we start talking about . . .
And your mention of Leonard's "Ooooooh yeeeeah" - Oooooh yeeees, not only did it get me whirling, but I am now howling, shrieking, & meowing too! I LOVE his voice always, but maybe especially in Light as a Breeze and Be For Real - it is like a deep, dark, infinite cavern that I want to curl up and dissolve into forever. . .
And how about the way he says, ". . .and she said, drink deeply pilgrim. . .", and the way he transitions from speaking to singing. . . (here we go encouraging each other again!)

Re: Leonard's Hat
I would like to say about this hat, that is the fact that Leonard's Hat is enough to make me want to tune in, because that hat is a pretty cool hat. And from wearing this hat you are not like an idiot.
Re: Leonard's Hat
I was going to do this (or something similar) when this thread was first posted and then completely forgot.
Just to bring the subject back to actual hats, check out all these varying styles and try them on for size
Somehow the white stetson (with the mo) appeals to me

It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to B4real ~ me

Be4Real, thank you for the beautiful collage of photos! I've always loved the one where he's wearing the black beret (I think it would be called beret), with that big white collar (or scarf? I think it's a collar) - he looks like a French Renaissance man in that photo - so charming & romantic - I think that look suits him - but of course I think every look suits him; it's just not possible for him to look any other way but GORGEOUS!!

Re: Leonard's Hat
I had a chance to see Leonard live and it was awesome. I've also seen that he wore Stetson hat. Here are some more thoughts about it: http://brandsandfilms.com/2010/10/famou ... black-hat/

I think possibly it's the sleeves of a white jumper tied round his neck. But I could be wrong (I often am...)

It think it might be a hood, if he's wearing a "hoodie" (not that they called them that back then).caz wrote:holydove wrote:Be4Real, thank you for the beautiful collage of photos! Hi caz & Lisa - Interesting ideas! Are we up for some more fun, perhaps? Maybe it's a pair of white pantyhose or a "resplendent" white chemise, surreptitiously left in his "chambre", by a lovely lady friend. . .

Re: Leonard's Hat
Oh, what a delicious idea! Perhaps the fragrance of a special someone lingers on the garment (I'd be more inclined to suggest that it is a chemise or some item of clothing that is not too obviously women's underwear!), and he is wearing it around his neck to remind him of their lovely encounter. And/or, perhaps he hopes to run into her so that he can return it, and the cool weather compels him to use it as a scarf.holydove wrote: Hi caz & Lisa - Interesting ideas! Re: Leonard's Hat
Lisa - yes, the fragrance - I thought about that too - glad you mentioned it! Or maybe it's a white satin slip from under the lady's dress (but then, that puts it in the category of women's underwear again!); or maybe it's the snowy white sheet from the bed. . .LisaLCFan wrote: Oh, what a delicious idea! Caz - (or anyone else who can answer this) - forgive my ignorance, but I'm not sure exactly what a "jumper" is, & why would Leonard have a jumper? (Isn't it something that a woman or child would wear?)
Re: Leonard's Hat
A "jumper" is British-speak for what we would call a "sweater."
Re: Leonard's Hat
Lisa, thank you; that word has a very different definition in the U.S. & is not used much anymore. . .
