My Croatian lecturer was a real sadist, who could not get over the fact that an English person wanted to learn Croatian at a German university. When he asked me to decline a verb, I explained that I didn't know what it meant, and besides, I didn't know how to decline anything in Croatian! He replied, just because the arrogant English didn't want the Euro, it did not mean that I could refuse to decline verbs. He did have a great sense of humour, but I would have been able to appreciate it more if it had not all been directed at me! I never went back - couldn't take the pace. But I do really want to go back to Croatia!
