Hi Tom,
A simple suggestion: maybe you should make a sperate topic for the rules of the trading board (the part you quote: "The purpose of this corner is to help fan sin trading trading of unreleased live material (audio or video) between fans..."), maybe a "sticky" or "announcement" topic so the rules will be always at the top of the list. What do you think?

I've been following this with interest too (partly as I started it off with my well-intentioned-but-stirring-up-controversy approach of listing some 99p auctions against the rougue sellers.
in the UK there seems to be one person behind all the 'Buy-it-Now' rip off DVDs for £15 or £30 and this is Trevor S. of Cove, Hampshire who trades both as 'trevorsem' and 'custard_pie69' (and previously as 'LeonardCohenDVDs' until the weight of negative feedback forced a change.
Unfortunately I do seem to have been a provider to Trevor who approached me last year for VCDs. The DVDs he's selling seem to be VCD transfers which explain why most buyers won't be impressed. It's a shame, but unless we have some sort of Leonard Cohen Jazz Police Force to check what people we provide material to do with it then we have to allow folk to make their own decisions. Having said that, I did decline to provide any more material to Trevor when he approached me again a couple of weeks back.
Since my little eBay experiment I note the asking price has dropped form £30 to £15 so that's something I guess. I don't really blame Trevor or other sellers, it's the buyers that stagger me - the phrase more money than sense jumping to mind. Even some of my 99p auctions went for over £10 (as an aside - I wrote to those that in my view overpaid and offered them additional DVDs to bring the unit cost down to something I felt was fair - they were shocked but happy, I suspect that doesn't happen on eBay too often).
I've researched the selling issue a lot since my listing and you won't be suprised to hear that similar discussions have taken place on Dylan, springsteen and other boards. The debate always seems to end up with 2 camps - die hard traders who oppose all selling and a more relaxed minority who don't mind paying a bit, but don't want to be ripped off either. The trading community isn't for everyone (i'm not a big fan of the reams of small print some traders try and get you to sign up to) and there should be alternatives for fans, which is why I will still trade for other stuff - books, beer, and yes - money. For one thing - non-traders often find it hard to get started when most people will have the basic stuff and while I'm sure we're all willing to help the odd person occassionally, there are limits.
No one seems to have found an easy answer to this - the copyright owners won't release it, the fans want it, some of them have it, how do they share it fairly? Trading is a solution for some fans but not all - it will be interesting to see how Collector's Corner develops
I'll be interested in what Leonard's people have to say about the situation - not least because the poor quality of available material is at the root of the problem. Release those archives!!!
As for me - will I list on eBay again? If I had more time I wouldn't be averse to a slew of low priced 'buy-it-now's to undercut the profiteering, but it's a moral sewer and I'm not particularly comfortable in it. I'll be keeping an eye on eBay though - I hate to look, but cannot turn away...

constantsorrow,
you're right. Stycky question announcement will always be on the top as first post? I'll do it so, then.
Thanks, Jarkko, for trust, and Our Man, for understanding

That's the money, I can't believe you can make such money on eBay.

Rob asked about FTP site (can we provide the link here). Anyway, those of you who can trade thru FTP just ask him.

I've watched this unfold with quiet curiosity. On the one hand you have the guts to state that this seller has got His material from you (most people would not have, so fair play to you there), yet you still appear to sell from your own web site to anyone who asks. Why not add a username that requires a password and full postal address?
Whilst I have watched the material being sold on E-Bay (and will continue to do so), you have failed to mention that you made second chance offers to lower bidders from your auctions (£20+), so. it would be wise to stop making out that your white than white, especially if your naming people and associating trading names to them (can see the association between custard pie and trevorsem, but not Leonard Cohen DVDs).
Just a thought...
Scooby Doo aka Whisper it quietly, I must say I will name people who are selling (not trading!) and I hope diamondsinthemine will stop sell although his intention was honest. I will name that company from gemm.com which sells fake DVD titled Strangers Songs with Austin 88, Julie Felix 1967 and few clips on it for 41 US $

I totally agree, all I am saying is that your relying upon information from a third party. Would it not be better to state that sellers user names, after all we do not know that this Trevor is behind all the user names stated. By the way there is also spacemantwist, o2bnewbargain, theshowgun, olgr12, atlantablues1970, alanalaska101.
Thanks, Whisper, I'll list them also. I'll also divide Trevor from all names, if maybe his not to be blamed.
As moderator I see IP adresses in this section, you know, so I see you and Scooby are using the same one. Also, Scooby apperaed on January 31 here, and all his 16 posts are connected to Ebay themes....
