I.F.. I've been meaning to answer this post, but got tripped up on the word "'humbolt"..

.. it's one of those things where I fear I'm missing something. If the word were a sort of Rorchach test, I'd confess to being reminded of two things: the color cobalt, and the character Humbert Humbert of Nabokov's Lolita fame (or infamy, as the case may be). [beautifully written book, by the way]

.. [oh, and thus, it's a very blue man, indeed].

Anyway, thanks for the bronzing skills appreciation. I do think I have an eagle eye for material of such merit. [??]

Hi, I'm new to this forum as well (at least as a member, I have browsed it on occasion). I'd like to share my first experience of Leonard. I first heard about him when my parents attended his 2009 performance in Brisbane, Australia. I didn't think much of it at first just another old singer my parents had a vague interest. My parents showed me some songs and I found some in our shared iTunes library, all we had was the Essential Leonard Cohen and The Future and I remember thinking at first that he couldn't sing at all and I even felt sorry for his backup singers whom i found incredible. Eventually I found on the Essential Leonard Cohen some of his older music and I fell in love with Nancy and So Long, Marriane. I listened to it more and more and fell in love with all of his music. I'm interested to know, is there anyone else who has had a similar experience not liking his voice at all but eventually falling in love with it?

I was at that concert in 2009 in the second row and again in 2010 first row - maybe I sat near your parents! To answer your question - yes, Leonard's voice has a certain way of growing on you and before you know it he has touched your soul. As you have found out it has changed in tone over the years as well.

Nobody can say the word "naked" as nakedly as Cohen. He makes us see the markings where the pantyhose have been."

I found there were some songs he sang which attracted me inseparably as a whole - both voice and words. But what initially got my attention were his words. I am referring his poetry books here as well. I just couldn't believe someone could use words so effectively and compelling in the way he did. I still am in awe of them.

I'm fairly sure my parents were more towards the back they aren't particularly die-hard fans as we are here. However, they did get me into so props to them! I could listen to anyone sing Leonard's words but i could listen to Leonard sing anything.

I turned 16 last May.

If you turned 16 recently, it means I am no longer the youngest person on the board!
...Which might be a sign that I'm getting old!
