Recently I have been listening to LC's concerts, starting with the earliest and working my way forward. I am in 1979 - Bonn right now (Raffi on violin). This has again brought out my intense desire to have a violinist added to the tour. The violin was such an integral part of the sound and so vital to some of the lyrics. The beauty of the sound of the violin is heart-piercing.

At one point in the tour, we came very close to getting the violin, but if I remember correctly, she could not commit because of the length of the tour. Perhaps the solution would be to get a guest violinist at some of the concerts, doesn't have to be the same violinist and doesn't have to do every song. I know that LC strives for perfection and this sort of haphazard approach might add an element of the unknown to the concert. There have to be musicians out there that harbor that love of LC's music and play it for their own pleasure. This violinist doesn't have to be famous. Might I, for personal reasons ;-) , suggest Sligo. Ireland is full of LC fans and excellent violinists. One of them surely would be able to perform admirably with their present knowledge and mastery of favorite LC songs that are already in their repertoire.

Hi MaryB,

Are you perhaps thinking of one of "us", who just happens to live in Cork, and plays the violin? ;-) ;-)

Hey Diana,
Didn't know the person you were referring to, did a search of 'Cork' and voila! Yes, let it be a forum member on that stage as a guest violinist. I'm sure that member would perform to perfection and make us all proud to be a part of this wonderful site!
Edit - I further suggest that this member come forward and tout their playing abilities and extend an offer to the UTC to guest at this gig. It would make so many happy :D

I would be willing to start a fund so we can offer them monetary compensation (or tons of boxes of chocolates) in order for us to have the pleasure of having you and your violin on stage (you can't simply stand on stage, you will have to actually play it  ) :D :D :D

omg....BV, yes, I started this thinking of YOU! However, tonight you are hopefully asleep and attempting to rest for your final exam tomorrow, and will read this later. Contact Robert Kory. Really. Share with him your violin experience. You have no idea what might happen. He may dash your hopes in an instant....BUT, he may consider. We would all go totally bonkers if you were on the stage with Leonard. The place would be nuts! An Irishwoman (and Forum member!) playing with Leonard in Ireland! And just think of the exposure you would have. Please, please, contact Robert. He is so accessible and answers every email. I truly think he and Leonard are behind these concerts in Sligo that were never meant to be. You would be an awesome inclusion, even if only for a song or two!!!!

Maybe they would even pay your way to LA to rehearse prior to the start of the tour. Heck..the guys in the band are no problem...they are so cool....it would be LC that you would have to let yourself not worry about, and he is so open and accepting. GO BV!!!!

I want more than your ears to burn :D I want those strings on fire!!!

BV just do as everyone says :D You will never know if you don't give it a go. Do you know the story of how Bob Dylan found his violinist? Story told to me by Gina. He saw a woman walking down the street with a violin (in a case - obviously not a gun) and asked her if she could play it. She said yes and the rest is history. She could and did play for him.

I think I said earlier in this or another thread BV tune up your BV jokingly and now I'm serious. You know this encouragement is also for my own selfish reasons; I will finally get to hear Leonard again WITH A VIOLIN 8)
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to B4real ~ me
Attitude is a self-fulfilling prophecy ~ me ...... The magic of art is the truth of its lies ~ me ...... Only left-handers are in their right mind!

Dear BV, now that you're finished with exams (and that very strange woman...you poor girl), all I can say is to GO FOR IT! We all have utmost faith in your violin ability!!! Please, please, contact Robert Kory (email address in LC Files but I can provide it also). The combination of Ireland, Yeats, Leonard, Irish violin, is simply too much NOT to consider. Robert and Leonard would also be very very aware of your Irish connection. I believe in your talent....if YOU do, then please contact Robert!! omg BV...the audience would go WILD!

Ha Brightnow, ever the problem solver. I don't have any video of myself playing but I did make a CD about 2 years ago that I could upload but I realised that I don't actually own a copy of it! You never know, something may wind up on youtube eventually. :)
