Don't resist Molly....do it. I was in the same position after my dog died and then a Boxer somehow made her way into my life and it's been uphill ever since.

Don't dwell on what
has passed away
or what is yet to be.

and...

We asked for signs
the signs were sent

Ahhh, September! A time of of clearing away the old to make room for the new.

:D :)
and you sank beneath her wisdom like a stone

I've always said that I would adopt a senior dog and when casually browsing today I came across an adorable mutt called.........September!! Is it a sign? Even the descrption seems appropriate. "A sweet old soul looking for love and companionship. September has a sense of humour and is described as a "real character." " I'm trying hard to resist!!
Oh, Mary, I don't know how you could resist! "September"! That is so perfect! Please let us know what you decide!

Dear Mary,

I just happened upon this thread. Yes, please please go and adopt her! All the planets and stars are in alignment! :D What a beautiful and loving thing you would be doing. I've thought many times that when my 2 kitties are gone (they are both VERY perky at 14) that next I would adopt an older kitty...perhaps from a home where its person has died....or, simply deserted it. So many dogs and cats need love...and they all give it back to us three-fold!

Diana

ps...who could resist someone named September! :D ;-) ;-) ;-) :D

I was feeling very happy yesterday as I collected my daughter from her first term at Cambridge, and after packing the car I told her I wanted to walk around a bit before starting the drive home. We went around to the market and as we passed a busker he started playing Hallelujah (very well, actually). It seemed so appropriate: that one word summed up the pride I was feeling at that exact moment for my daughter, as I collected her from one of the world's finest universities. Of course, I turned back and gave him a donation, a big smile and a few words of encouragement.

COHEN'S COUNTENANCE CALMS CRYING CHILD

Amazing moment: I was with a friend and her baby, Leo, at a choral concert in a cathedral last night. 7-month-old Leo was there because his daddy was singing. About an hour in, Leo began to fuss. Our escape route, planned earlier, had closed off as the cathedral filled up. Leo's mother had run out of quietly-amusing toys and games. Even the breast wasn't soothing him. So far, he had only gotten to the point of soft whimpering, but he was ramping up. At an exquisitely quiet point in the performance, with the audience rapt, he clenched his fists, scrunched up his shoulders and opened his mouth, about to wail. I started rummaging through my shoulderbag for something magical. I hauled out Tim Footman's new biography and showed Leo the cover: his eyes widened, his hands opened, and he looked from Leonard's face to mine, with an expression of wonder and gratitude, as if to say: "How did you know I needed to gaze upon that face?" Disaster averted, the choir broke the silence with "Hallelujah!" (not the "real" version, but some ditty by a guy called Handel)
Leo and I spent the whole Hallelujah chorus happily leafing through Footman's photo section and we all made it safely to intermission.

It is BV, that threw me at first too - they called it Pirate Radio in the US for some reason.

Tonight I had a big thrill and I will share my random LC moment...
Out to the blue I heard this young man and woman talking while I was
approaching the check out line at the local health food store. I was unloading my cart and heard the cashier and
person packing the groceries laughing. Cute, in their 20's, flirting...
I heard her say "its the crack and the light." and so I just said to them as I got closer
"There is a crack in everything, thats how the light gets in" - she gets very excited and starts jumping up and down
saying thats it! thats it! I say Leonard Cohen...
they both look blank and say who is that? I say "thats who wrote those words" and you are in for a treat getting me in your line..
I tell them about his music and they should look him up on the internet...they write it down and the whole line is waiting behind me..
The young woman tells me last week she was depressed and a stranger in the store handed her the words on a piece of paper.
She put it up on her mirror....
They were both sooooo excited and I loved it too.
