Amsterdam Event 2016: Registration has started
Re: Amsterdam Event 2016: Registration has started
Hi Friends,
Today it is exactly 6 Months before the start of our Event in Amsterdam.
The winter's almost gone
The summer's tuning up
Don't book your Hotel or Room to late, it's getting more expensive if we come closer to the summertime.

Salutations from Down-Under ... well, that's not strictly true ... I'm penning this missive from Lage in Germany, just 311ks from Amsterdam, but our home (Perth, Western Australia) is 14,134kms away (as the crow flies). I've seen that it appears I am the only Australian (or New Zealander for that matter), attending this year's event. For those who don't know, I am a Kiwi by birth, but after many years living in Oz, I assumed Oz citizenship in 1996, so, like many people across the globe, I have two homes - well, these days, three, Germany has also become a home to me - I spend a lot of time here with my wife Ann and her mum (Brigitte) and all three of us are attending the Amsterdam event. And it should be stated that Ann and I would never have met if it wasn't for the Forum - we will both be forever grateful! in fact, just last night, Brigitte told me of the night Ann told her she'd 'met' someone she liked, Brigitte was very enthusiastic, then Ann said, "He's Australian." Brigitte cried "No!" Biut I think she now likes me - seven years and a marriage later!
I understand the lack of Kiwis and Aussies attending - the financial cost is enormous and the Oz dollar currently buys about .68c - even buying a E15.00 meal at the Nordsee cafe actually costs about $22.00 plus another E3.00 in bank charges and much of Australia is in recession, though governments vehemently deny it. Nevertheless, we are coming!
I think it's important to put in writing grateful thanks to Willy and Wybe for their incredible efforts, I know what it's like to organise a major event - it was my life for many years. First the damns! I had so wanted to meet up once again with Mary and George and Di, but it is not to be, I also see that Caren can't make it, damn!!! I hope you guys will make it to Hydra next year! (Yes, we've decided by hook, or by crook, we'll be there). On the other hand, the opportunity to see Sharon in an intimate 20 minute concert is worth the price of the ticket from Perth - I hope she has copies of her latest CD for sale.
It is, as we're all aware, a very poignant time - Leonard's muse, Marianne has passed away and let us be honest, many of us have reached an age where illness and 'Stepping off the Perch' are facts of life, we will all slowly fade and the attendee list in ten years time will look very different to this year's. Could I suggest we set ourselves a goal of each introducing say, 2 young (circa 20yrs) people to Leonard's music each year. The robins will indeed fall, therefore we must nurture new eggs in the nests.
Strewth! It all seems a bit sad, I don't mean it that way, it's just that we've come so far with Leonard's beauty, there is a duty to pass it all on to a future generation of keepers. One more thing, I had planned to offer some sort of mad performance, but several months of bloody annoying ill health have skewed those plans, however if I see a still, awkward moment, with permission I may just be bold enough to jump on stage and relate a tale ... of Leonard, his music, a Walkman and a Greyhound driver deep across the desert at 4.00am one Thursday morn.

Beautiful words of thanks, Greg. I only wish I could be there this year. Knowing you and Ann and Brigitte will have a marvelous time together with everyone else. Much love to you all.
