i'm ali hughes, singer for ali & the thieves jazz/blues/soul band in sydney. the above is a little media release for a show i have written called 'Cohen Koans'. it plays for 2 nights in Septmber (Venue: NOTES, Enmore Road, Enmore // Dates: Sun 19th @ 6pm & Thurs 23rd @ 10pm) as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival: http://thesydneyfringe.com.au/shows/leonard-cohen-koans
the show was inspired by Leonard Cohen's song, 'Suzanne'. earlier this year i opened with 'Suzanne' for LC's fellow Canadian artist, Jane Siberry, in an intimate concert. the response to our treament of this gorgeous song was very generous. and the experience of working with the poetic magic of it was so positive and rewarding, that it seemed an obvious next step to create a show from Leonard Cohen's catalogue of song, poetry and prose.
