Only 5th in Finland (down from #1).

So, we have six contenders for the "longest reign" of Old Ideas:

Flanders (sorry, Ria Bellen, it's just sport ;-) ) - 3
Norway - 3
Hungary - 2
New Zealand - 2
Czech Republic - 2
Croatia - 2

Dear Goldin,
you don't have to say sorry, of course it's just sport and of course I want Leonard to be the first. B.t.w. I'm living in Flanders, so Flanders and Norway first !

Belgium rocks anyway!

Norway is OK too. While Old Ideas is topping for three weeks, The Complete Studio Albums Collection appears in Top 40:
week 6 - #33
week 7 - #35

(Of course, Leonard is always #1 with me!)
Lana Del Rey is amazing. Been alternating her new album (born to die) and Old Ideas all day today. I sure hope she doesn't self-destruct (I hope she was just nervous, but she looked stoned or drunk or both on SNL recently. Shades of Amy Winehouse)...

I do think that Cohen fans might enjoy her. I certainly do. Been following her work for a while now (born to die is not actually her first album; her first album was digital only and is no longer available as far as I can tell). It's very hard to describe her. Maybe imagine a modernized Billy Holiday? I don't know, like Leonard, there is simply no way to peg her down to a specific genre or style. Lyrically she isn't as deep or complex as Leonard, I don't think many of her songs would stand as "amazing poetry" without the music, but they are compelling and interesting. Also, she either has, or is cultivating the image of having, a deeply naughty side that reminds me a lot of Leonard.
I bought Lana Del Rey Born To Die at the same tine as Old Ideas as she is an artist / singer that I thought was interesting in a retro way in terms of a big airy sound achieved. I thought her 'video games' was amazing and watched with interest other songs loaded on to Youtube. However on listening to the CD in full it does not live up to the hype and only really has quality material for an extended EP with the rest being 'fill' . It also in my opinion has annoying over production and sound as if the producer wanted to use every piece of equipment available / throw every sound and trick he could find in to the mix but spoilt the rawness of the singer and songs in the process.

It was unfortunate timing to release Old Ideas at the same time as the Lana Del Rey release was highly awaited and destined to go the top.
