Let's Help Make Old Ideas #1 Worldwide!!

Post by jarkko »

“Old Ideas” will be promoted strongly all over the world. The Internet will play an essential part in this. The official website, http://www.leonardcohen.com, is going to work together with the fan sites and forums.

Leonard and Robert very much appreciate the support of the fan community that has gathered around these websites. We have created an extraordinary world-wide network, a resource that has offered support and valuable information to Leonard and his people over so many years.

Marie and I have had a discussion with Robert about how we might use our webring resources to help. One helpful step would be to follow local press and report. They need our help in keeping informed about what is written or said about Old Ideas and its songs in various countries.

We ask all members to follow local press and other media, and report here what’s written or said. Please include the link if the article or comment is online. You may also upload attachments (like scans of articles). If for some reason you cannot do it here, please send by email to both Marie at Megan2C2B@aol.com and Jarkko at ja@nebula.fi. If you don’t have a scanner to use, you may also telefax to +358-9-8840990 (open 24 hours).

We will collect and forward the information to Leonard’s management. Some of it may also find its way onto the official website.
Looking forward to your contributions!

I got the following from Greek websites. Nothing from official media (magazines, radio etc) has reached me, but then again, that's Sophia's job.

http://www.clickatlife.gr/story/mousiki ... id=2097799

It's about the first studio album of this top artist in eight years and at the same time the most recent one in his career which counts already six whole decades.
The ten songs it will be consisted of are poetically addressed to the deepest meanings of human existence - the relationship with the transcendental being, love, sexuality, loss and death.
The recordings for "Old Ideas" started in January 2011, while many of the songs and lyrics had been worked on for years. The first versions of two of the songs of the album, "Amen" and "Lullaby" were originally recorded in 2007, while "Lullaby" and "The Darkness" were performed live during Cohen's recent, sold-out world tour.
The fans knew what to expect, ever since, when Cohen received the literary award Principe de Asturias Prize at Spain, in October, he said: "As I grew older, I understood that instructions came with this voice. The instructions were never to lament casually. And if one is to express the great inevitable defeat that awaits us all, it must be done within the strict confines of dignity and beauty".
Leonard Cohen's album is produced by Patrick Leonard, Anjani Thomas, Ed Sanders and Dino Soldo. Cohen's baritone signature in "Old Ideas" is completed with the excellent performers Dana Glover, Sharon Robinson, The Webb Sister (Hattie and Charlie Webb) and Jennifer Warnes. The designing of the cover was done once more by Cohen himself.

The same article, only slightly varied can be found in other Greek pages as well, sometimes along with the track list and a link to "Show Me The Place".

And there is also an article on Jumping Fish (which I think is a rather popular Greek site for music), less informative and possibly annoying to the few of us who forgive what Leonard does and the fewer who don't even care. http://www.jumpingfish.gr/music/play/2519

Leonard Cohen is releasing his first album in eight years on January 31 (the day of Justin Timberlake's birthday - just something we know) to begin the potentially last year of humanity with the necessary self-examination and with deep thoughts on the nature of love, the pain of loss, the essence of sexuality and in the end the mortality of each one of us. Calm down, Leonard Cohen, it's not like we don't make such existential quests ourselves every day.
"Old Ideas" includes 10 new songs and artwork drawn by Cohen himself (he may be a great poet, but he's also a Photoshop novice), while you can hear the first single "Show Me The Place" below..[link to the song].

In other news of the family, son Adam will appear at Barouge on December 11.

the person who wrote the above article seems to be a jerk, way too much to function.
"Oh chosen love, Oh frozen love
Oh tangle of matter and ghost
Oh darling of angels, demons and saints
And the whole broken-hearted host
Gentle this soul..."

Title: Леонард Коэн: новый альбом старых идей (Leonard Cohen: New Album of Old Ideas)
We are waiting for this for seven years and one big world tour. And then it happened: Leonard Cohen will release a new album titled "Old Ideas" in January next year!

"If velvet could sound it would sound like Leonard Cohen" - once said about the sensual singer of the world stage. In his songs grew more than one generation, many, by the way, did not even know what was the name of whose songs they sing along. The whole world is avidly watched the movie by Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers" with the title track "Waiting For The Miracle", and its composition at that time was trying to reach nirvana in a Buddhist monastery.

And so ... that he is going to release first album in years, Cohen told the press in the last month. And even break in a couple of new songs during his lengthy world tour, going to that, then a 74-year-old musician tried to improve his financial situation (Cohen during his stay in the ashram, its director zeroed accounts of Leonardo).

By the way, the album will be released not only on the CD, but also on vinyl. And a limited edition will come with an album of lithographs of the authorship Cohen, pre-order the all you can - here.

It is the same Leo, which soon becomes even better. All the same velvety baritone framed whispering backing vocals and melancholy violins. And yes .... We are very, very, very much want to hear "Old Ideas" as a whole, although there must be content with one track:

I'll find out from someone how to set an Alert to my email. In the area where I live, very little if anything will be said, but maybe further out I'll locate something.

This comment "Calm down, Leonard Cohen, it's not like we don't make such existential quests ourselves every day" only made me laugh. Let the writer even once in his life make the inquiry in any of the same ways or caliber that Leonard does daily.

Leonard Cohen Returns With ‘Old Ideas’
By: Jim Allen | November 22, 2011 at 4:10 pm
Ah, yes: The deep, gravelly voice, the poignant piano plunking, the laser-guided lyrics — it’s great to have the old master back in the saddle again. (No, we’re not talking about Tom Waits.) Leonard Cohen’s revealed the first track from his new album, Old Ideas, and immediately “Show Me the Place” makes it apparent that the Canadian song-poet’s game is still as sharp as ever, as he rumbles out his reverie over simple piano and organ accompaniment. In grand Cohen style, when he discusses a yearning for guidance, slaves, and moving rocks all in hymn-like fashion, it’s difficult to tell whether he’s addressing the Almighty or an old flame — we’re thinking it’s the former, but secretly hoping it’s the latter.
Old Ideas arrives January 31.

Žlahtne stare ideje slovitega kantavtorja

Montreal, 23.11.2011, 11:55 | R.V.
Sloviti kanadski kantavtor Leonard Cohen bo konec januarja 2012 izdal nov studijski album Old Ideas.
Njegov prepoznavni bariton so v ozadju še dopolnili izjemni vokalisti Dana Glover, Sharon Robinson, The Webb Sisters (Hattie in Charley Webb) ter Jennifer Warnes. Za oblikovanje ovitka albuma ter za risbice v knjižici je poskrbel kar sam Cohen.
