Accommodations for the Madison Event

Hi everyone-
I have some information about places to stay for people attending the event next August. The first place, of course, that I will mention is The Lowell Center which is a conference center that is operated by the University of Wisconsin. Please understand that it is not a dormitory and each guest room has its own bathroom "en suite." Because it is operated by the University, there is no tax charged and a very nice breakfast is included each morning. The rates I believe are quite reasonable. It is $89 per night for one person with a charge of $12 for any extra people in the room. This is the standard room which includes rooms that have one queen size bed or two (European-smaller) beds. We also have deluxe rooms which are very new and many of which have great views of Lake Mendota. The deluxe rooms are $105 per night with a charge of $12 for each extra person. The deluxe rooms have a mixture of King, Queen and 2 Queen beds.

Here is a page with some information and pictures about the rooms: http://conferencing.uwex.edu/lodging.cfm There is even a Youtube video tour of the Lowell Center by clicking one of the links on the page.

I have blocked 106 rooms for the event and made a link to our online booking system. I've blocked the rooms beginning on Wednesday, August 1st through Monday, August 6th. You can adjust the arrival and departure dates to fit your schedule. You can book through this link:

There is a very liberal cancellation policy that would allow you to cancel by 6 PM on the day of your arrival.

There is also a hostel not too far from the campus. I confess that I don't know very much about the quality of the accommodations, but here is a link to a place that could book your bed:

There are several hotels that are very close. Union South is a brand new facility that has guest rooms. At least one of the concerts will be at Union South. Here is a link to their webpage:

The Madison Concourse Hotel and Governor's Club is probably the nicest hotel in Madison and is only several blocks away. Prior to my time here at The Lowell Center, I was the Director of the rooms division and can speak to the high quality of the rooms and staff. It is, of course, much more expensive than Lowell. Here is a link to their website:

There is another hotel directly across the street from The Lowell Center called The Campus Inn. It is also a very nice hotel:

I will ask Pawel to add this information to the registration page. I'm happy to answer any questions about individual hotels. I'll add information about Chicago when I do a little more investigation.

Thanks for this hotel info Joe. I have sent them a question regarding military discounts. One of my daughters attended Penn State University at University Park. They have two hotels on site which do offer rates. It looks like it will be a splendid time for all.

Dear lennycohenfan,
To answer your question about The Lowell Center and discounts-the Lowell Center is a not for profit center that is operated by the University so the rates are set low for everyone so the rate is already discounted. I should mention again that there are no sales or hotel taxes that are charged so the rate that you are quoted is the total charge.

Joe -

Thanks. The Lowell Center did respond and offered me a military rate (thankfully). Of course, the money saved will likely be consumed in liquid form!
