Suzanne Elrod

I also understand everything [the floorcloths, frescos, and portraits] other than the Old Masters to be original. She does most of her portraits from photographs, but that doesn't take away from the artistry, from my perspective, particularly with what it appears she adds to them in their expressiveness, ambience, et al.

Oh no, Lizzytysh - you made it again!
Suzanne Elrod was the long-time companion of Leonard and the mother of Lorca and Adam, nowadays living in France.
The song "Suzanne" was not written about Suzanne Elrod but much
earlier, and the first Suzanne was Suzanne Verdal McCallister,
wife of Leonard's friend. She has been and probably still is a street dancer (read the story at http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/verdal.html)

~ oh G~d, wouldn't you just know it!!! "Will the 'real' Suzanne please stand up!?!" Guess I need to give my definition of 'real' first on that, don't I? OK, now that I have a clear visual [and more than just a name] ~ Suzanne, the mother of Adam and Lorca, as magnificent painter, I will not confuse them again! [Promise! ] ~ Geesh!!!
Is or has either of them taught yoga in L.A. ?
Thanks, Jarkko .

Hi Lightning,
Your first post was just one criticism after another of Suzanne Elrod. So pardon me if I thought you were taking it personally. But in your new post you let a few more zingers fly.
EVERYONE would rather have an original Master work than an exquisitely accurate copy of an old master. But I don't think that is going to happen, do you? I would be happy to have a copy.
And her floor covers are meant to be walked on, but have a dual function as a wall hanging if the client so desires.
And this "talent" of copying original works of art is not as common as you believe. I mean, Leonard (Bless his heart) can't do it!
I think you dislike Suzanne And denigrate her art work because she had a long-term relationship with Leonard. Which is precisely why I chose the phrase "Sour Grapes" to describe your criticisms! Your definition is perfect: "'Sour Grapes' usually refer to something you want but can't have so you put it down to negate an unsatifiable desire." Bingo!

Heretic, welcome from the heat of Hell (again). Can you not find it in your heart to encourage even pretend poets? Or does your negativity extend from your own inadequate feelings?
Either way, I wish you and your fellow devils a merry Xmas and hope you have some snow in Hell, to cool you down.

I am a right bad ass, dankish prince and I love my Violet to bits.
Coco,
You misunderstood my post about wanting original art instead of a copy. I didn't mean an original old master, I meant ANY original art would interest me more than somebody's copy. Perhaps I am too imbued with the principles of modern and post-modern art e.g. iconoclasm, originality, abstraction or social commentary, to be impressed by the copying of old masters or the imitation of an antique style of portraiture designed to flatter the aristocracy. Why bother? Except that the bourgeoisie likes to hang them in their homes for prestige and is willing to pay for them.
Is not the creation of musician Adam Cohen another reproduction of an old master? But without sufficient fidelity to make it a great success.
As for your accusing me of 'sour grapes" or jealousy of Suzanne Elrod's relationship with Leonard Cohen, I have no reason to be jealous as I am not an infatuated fan.
You said "She beats him hands down." Maybe that was their problem.

What is your PROBLEM? Most "modern" artists can't draw...they will not put in the time and discipline that it takes to master the basics..because they can't wait to be "creative." That's why there's so much crap out there masquerading as art. I say hurrah for the "bourgeoise" who don't fall for that garbage and who would rather have a good imitation of an old master instead of an "original" piece of modern junk.
I think coco was right on the money about your jealousy...you prove it with your snide remarks about reproduction.

My perspective on Adam goes like this. I originally bought his cd, after I was shocked to learn that Leonard had a family and two children, that one of them was a boy, and that he wrote music and sang, too. I looked for Leonard in his face. I listened for Leonard in his songs and voice. Unfair to Adam. My problem, not his. After some time, I came to terms with the fact that Leonard is not going to continue with us [me] through his son. I accepted that Adam is writing and singing because he loves these things. This is quite natural for a child who has lived around music, and in Adam's case, may be a link to a father [sometimes/oftimes? absent in his life], whom he admires and wants to be close to. I understand that their relationship has grown closer over the years. Looking at Suzanne, it is not unreasonable to think that she has had musician friends, as well, around whom Adam has spent a great deal of time through the years. I've listened to Adam's songs, fighting the compulsion to want to hear Leonard. Adam really does have his own style. Leonard accounts his son as having a truly good voice. From what I've read, Adam has gone to Leonard a few times for assistance in refining some lyrics, but not really that often. It appears that Adam is determined to be himself, and not an imitation [good, bad, or otherwise] of his renowned father. I think and feel it's important that we give him the proper respect for how he's handling the struggle that comes with being Leonard Cohen's son and trying to make it in the world of music, which is difficult enough in its own right.

Hi Lightning,
I have to say I am stunned by your latest post. You seem to resent the fact that Suzanne had children by Leonard. According to you she is just as bad a "reproducer" of Adam as she is a reproducer of Old Master paintings.
That is just so weird. I would say that Adam Cohen is his own man. It is so unfair of you to compare Adam and his success as a musican to Leonard's great career. And to top it off you blame SUZANNE for "reproducing" an "insufficent fidelity" copy of Leonard. Excuse me, but wasn't Leonard there? Why don't you blame him for the "copy".
I have always hated it when people describe mothers as "breeders" or in your case "reproducers". Such contempt!
And what does your remark: "'she beats him hands down' Maybe that was their problem" mean... You seem to be implying that Suzanne beat Leonard. Don't cast these accusations into cyberspace. You will be seen to be as bad as Ann Diamond.
