Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Just wanted to say hello. I just found out about Leonard Cohen in December 2008 after watching the tribute, I'm Your Man. That's all it took. I instantly reconginzed the genius in Cohen. I told my friend it was my goal to see him this year. Last week I told another friend I would visit her in DC if Cohen played New York. Little did I know! I didn't know that he hasn't played the states in 15 years! So I heard about the show and I got on ticketmaster at the alloted time and I sat there for an hour and a half hitting the back button trying to get a ticket until I found out it had sold out in seven minutes. I immediately started crying. Another friend said he could have a extra ticket he was putting in a bid on ebay...so I checked out the scalpers and ended up paying over 400 bucks for a ticket myself. A little steep. But it's ok. I'm going! Coming from Utah. I hope I will be able to meet other Cohen heads at any gathering, as I heard someone mention here. It's also nice to read your posts, because it makes me feel like I'm not as crazy as I am!

Cheers!
So happy!

Denise

I know a scalper price is unacceptable. I swear at one point I was curled up in a ball on my couch crying. It was kind of strange. I am a big music lover, of course. I just had my heart set on seeing him perform. It just seemed meant to happen for me after I had been talking about it. I know I am so knew to it all. I don't even have any of his CD's or albums. After watching the movie, I went to playlist.com and have a playlist of his music to listen to while I'm on the computer. I'm going to Salt Lake next week and I'm visiting a album store to see what they have. Not interested in downloading music, I'd rather have something in my hand.

I'm an old "deadhead", use to follow the Grateful Dead...that's where Box of Rain comes from, it's a song. I always call fans, heads.

I might have been missing out all of those years but, it's also kind of cool to be new to it all, discovering things for the first time.

I was recently on a Nick Cave tour, his newest CD was new to me, plus I didn't know a lot of his work. It's such a wonderful way to become familar with someone...to see them perform. It's like meeting the musican, the music and words with such a open and fresh feel.

I know how lucky I am. I totally appreciate that I have this opportunity. I told my friend that I wanted to get the expensive ticket, 250, she said she couldn't affort that I told her I would pitch in an extra hundred...so in the end I am paying about what I thought I'd be paying, just getting one ticket.

Sorry I have to go on but I remember back in the Grateful Dead days I told this scapler,"deadheads do not buy scalper tickets, you'll see"....I got into that show trading my backrow ticket for his frontrow ticket! I guess times have changed. It's ok.

I'll be sure to let you know on this forum if I hear of any extra tickets! I promise.

Hello, Box-of-rain and everyone else.
I'm new to this Forum Also...but I dont feel new !

I have been following Mr Cohen and his Magical Tour since it was fist announced, through my wife mainly, who is the big fan in our household. However, the constant playing of Leonard Cohen Albums over many years has permeated into all the family including the youngest. I was very aware of the Forum but never signed up. I do look forward to coming home from work and getting the lastest updates from my wife on what was happening.
I have been lucky enough to get to a few concerts and tried to share the experience through some youtube uploads. I though it was now time that I came out and announced that yes I am A Fan too . It is all very exciting and with the Tour unfolding like a blossoming flower there is always something to look forword to, which is a nice diversion in these depressing ecconomic times.

The ability to reach out all over the world and infuse so many people with moments of Joy, contemplation and inner peace through your music and lyrics is a wonderful gift. I will be eternally grateful to Mr Cohen for following his heart to share that gift with us. I must also mention my beloved wife (irishmar) who shone a torch on the way for me. (thank you dear).

I am really looking forward to New York. I will be savouring and aborbing every minute of it .

Bye for now. IrishAL.

Denise -

Before you actually pay out 400 dollars to a scalper, you might like to consider the news below (which I stress is not confirmed but is believable), recently posted by Robin in the news section:

Leonard Cohen U.S. tour kicks off in Austin
By Michael Corcoran | Monday, January 19, 2009, 06:55 PM

Hallelujah! Canadian singer-songwriting legend Leonard Cohen is starting his 2009 U.S. tour at the Long Center April 2. This is a tip from bassist Roscoe Beck, the Austinite who serves as Cohen’s musical director. There are no ticket details yet.

Cohen has not toured the U.S. in 16 years. His recent shows in Europe sold out in minutes.

Hey! It's great to meet all of you!

I know a tour will be starting up in April. I think it would be really great to follow, a little. I'll see after the New York show. He has to prove himself! HA HA, just joking! But I can't imagine going through the ticket thing again!

I wrote to my friend on myspace about him and she calls him Lenny!

Anyhow...I have so many questions. But I don't want to ask anything until I've seen him. I feel kind of spoiled. I have to treat myself. I work hard. I'm giving too. I swear, I'm deserving! When I woke up this morning, I said outloud to no one, "I love life!"

No one ever turned me on to Cohen. No one ever said, hey, check out this music, listen to these words...I have another 40 years to appreciate it, God willing.

Thanks again for writing...I like to hear your stories!

Denise

Hi: I am also new to this forum and to Leonard Cohen, to be honest. Someone sent me a U-Tube video of his "DANCE ME TO THE END OF LOVE" video and that left me in awe of this man. He is so talented that I must have been living under a box to never have heard of him before. I have been watching all the videos on UTube and enjoying every minute. He is from my era and so talented. I especially love KD Lang's version of Halleluia.

Does anyone know if he will be touring thru the US, other than in NY? Please post if you do.
