A Munificent Spirit

Post by B4real »

It was a year ago tomorrow 7th Feb which saw probably the worst ever natural disaster occur in Australia. Bushfires raged out of control in country areas outside of Melbourne. There were 173 lives lost and hundreds of homes with vast areas of bushland including animals that were destroyed. So much tragedy for all concerned. It occurred at the same time that Leonard Cohen was giving his last performance in Australia which happened to be in Melbourne.

As is the nature of this loving, giving human being – he donated all the profits from this concert to the bushfire victims. An unselfish, unheralded act of the highest order. He didn’t shout it from the treetops – but quietly went about the business of helping his fellow human beings as he thought he should do. He didn’t get nor seek much publicity from this noble deed.

I just want it put on record here that all of Australia is so grateful for the generosity he and all involved provided a year ago and that it will always be remembered for the selfless and gracious act that it was.

Thank you Leonard.

Be4Real, thank you for shining some well-deserved light on Leonard's beautiful, selfless act of generosity. As we know, Leonard's great humility prevents him from making anything like that known to the world, so it is really nice when others acknowledge his huge heart. . .

My prayers are with your fellow Australians - for the ones who have "crossed over", may their new journeys be joyful & peaceful; for those who were affected, but survived on this earthly plane, I hope they are progressing in piecing their lives back together & attaining some emotional recovery. . .

Thank you Gina and holydove for your interest and concern.

The towns which were affected are slowly being built again and people are coping as best as they can. There were a lot of fat white candles lit in remembrance on Sunday ( not a thin green candle in sight). At the moment the whole east coast here is being drenched with rain in the aftermath of a cylone (hurricane) and I see the east coast of the US is covered in record snow falls. Well, that's definitely one thing none of us can control - the weather.

As for Leonard's munificent spirit - may it continue to flourish and be recognised. :)
