Thank you, Leonard

You sang to me
Through the silver voice of Denver’s sister
Called me to the river
Again and again
Until enough clouds passed by
The desert bloomed

You danced with me
Your voice a second skin
Your faith, your solitude
Permission
For Spirit reign
In every crack and wrinkle
Of this world’s garden

You prayed with me
Knelt in worship under hat and hot lights
Offered your sacrifice of praise
Thanksgiving
Garnishing the wages that belong to you
Your gift will last forever

Dear Mr. Cohen,

I saw you, at 74, RUN out onto the stage, in May. I hope to see you again in October, running out to us, onto the stage, at a HEALTHY 75...take care of yourself and REST and EAT!

Happy Birthday to one of the most beautiful faces God ever sculpted,

Love,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEONARD

IT STARTED WITH THE WORD
AND THE WORD BECAME WORDS
AND THE WORDS MADE THE DARKNESS
DISAPPEAR

IT STARTED WITH THE WORD
AND THE WORD BECAME WORDS
AND THE WORDS MADE THE DARKNESS
BEAUTIFUL

ALL WAS CHAOS
ALL IS CHAOS
BUT THE CHAOS
LISTENS TO THE WORDS

YOUR WORDS ALWAYS MAKE US SMILE
YOUR WORDS ALWAYS MAKE US CRY
YOUR WORDS TOUCH US WHERE WE CAN'T BE TOUCHED
YOUR WORDS INVITE US TO THE SKY

ALL WAS BEAUTY
ALL IS BEAUTY
AND THE BEAUTY
UNDERSTANDS THE WORDS

YOUR WORDS REMIND US OF TOMORROW
YOUR WORDS PENETRATE TODAY
YOUR WORDS CAN PREDICT OUR YESTERDAYS
YOUR WORDS WORK TO SHOW THE WAY

ALL WAS LOVE
ALL IS LOVE
BUT THE LOVE
NEEDS THE WORDS

YOU ARE THE CITY
WANDERED INTO IN A DREAM
YOU ARE THE LAPIS
THE AUTUMN FRUIT
THE STARY NIGHT
THE SCREAM

IN THE CREATOR'S IMAGE
WE DO AS HE INSTRUCTED
AND THE MUSIC OF THE PLANETS
BY YOUR HAND HAS BEEN CONDUCTED

IT STARTED WITH THE WORD
AND THE CYCLE NEVER ENDS
AND THE MAN WHO WROTE THE WORDS
HAS A PLANET FULL OF FRIENDS

Dear Leonard,

I also want to say Happy Birthday to you today.
You won't remember, but we met once, it was in the summer of 1979 in Hydra. I was there with my brother and his girlfriend and we met at Bills Bar and drank together and talked about our "Suzannes". My girlfriend at that time was named as your "greatest hit" until then.
I adored your music already before and all the time since then.
And last year, when you toured in Europe, I had the chance to visit your concert in Lörrach (July 25th). And there, nearly 50 years old, i finally met the great love of my live. Thank you so much for this ... and for all the great feelings and wonderful moments I had with your music.

Sincerely

Peter

P.S.: Sorry if my english is not perfect.

Here's a poem I wrote for my fiance whilst thinking of you...

Nora Forever

I do not write like Leonard Cohen
but I tell you the naked woman in my room
makes the sign of the cross
kneeling before a portrait of Jesus.

I do not know the words to write
to make her flesh beautiful except to say
the crosses cut into her palms caressed
my flesh felt like holy water.

I awoke saying, I love you.
I thought she would die in my arms,
a gun-shot to the heart
but the revolver belonged to a ridiculous dream.

Her face fell upon mine eyes as if from heaven.
