25. Closing Time

You sure you don't confuse Closing Time with Democracy? It is reported here:
viewtopic.php?f=32&t=14588&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

that Democracy was also played. and I think someone in this thread said he left Closing Time out. It's a more reasonable ommision then Democracy, which LC seems to really like (didn't it close a festival show lately?)

I attended the (stunning) Calgary show. Closing Time was played, Democracy was not.

The above setlist is completely accurate, although I would make the slight clarification that "Thousand Kisses Deep" was the poem (also known as Recitation w/ N.L.), not the song.

Just got in from the Winnipeg concert. Absolutely brilliant.

I am ruined for life – I dare anyone to try to top that show. As an aspiring performing songwriter – this was paradise!!

We got basically the same sets as Calgary except no Sister of Mercy (sadly as it is a personal fave) and the four encores kinda morphed into three. However, if I didn’t have the Calgary set list with me I would have had no idea about missing SoM, as the show was so satisfying.

What a body of work Leonard has. Those images, storylines, melodies – what a craftsman! And what a presence! What a gracious and talented man.

My only problem was with the yahoos (and I did my share of yahooing and cheering) who insisted on yelling out after Whither Thou Goest while Leonard thanked the staff and crew (by name!!) and shared some final wisdom – which was kinda lost amongst the yelling. Anyway a fantastic show – by an artist at the top of his game with the finest band I ever recall seeing.

Run; don’t walk to the next Leonard Cohen concert in your neighbourhood!!

A very happy Daevid signing out and looking for something to do until he can settle down and relax

Has Lullaby disappeared completely from all the shows? When was it last performed?

According to the setlists, not since 4-13 in Oakland - WOW! I wonder what happened that they are no longer performing this beautiful ballad?

We were at the concert in Victoria, BC, and I wasn't smart enough to make a set list - but I'd like to have one (including the encores). Any idea where to get this??

Minneapolis, May 3rd Set List

Dance Me to the End of Love
The Future
Ain't No Cure For Love
Bird on the Wire
Everybody Knows
In My Secret Life
Who By Fire
Chelsea Hotel
Waiting For the Miracle
Anthem
(intermission)
Tower of Song
Suzanne
The Gypsy's Wife
The Partisan
Boogie Street (Sharon Robinson)
Hallelujah
I'm Your Man
A Thousand Kisses Deep (poem)
Take This Waltz
(1st encore)
So Long Marianne
First We Take Manhatten
(2nd encore)
Famous Blue Raincoat
If It Be Your Will (The Webb Sisters)
Democracy
(3rd encore)
I Tried to Leave You
Whither Thou Goest

I was fortunate to obtain a set list from the crew and Lullaby/Don't Make Junk appears as the last entree before I Tried to Leave You. I think that they just ran out of time-I didn't time the concert but I looked at my watch as we were walking out and it was 11:20 PM. They also substituted Democracy instead of Closing Time. I would be very hard pressed to choose between the two but I'm still grateful that I was able to hear some songs that were not performed in Canada last summer-my last foray into concertdom.

He missed "Bird on a Wire" and I'm not sure I remember hearing "Who By Fire".

Hello!

WOW!! Saw Leonard Cohen last night in Philly with my kids!!!

It was S.U.P.E.R.B.!!!!!

Amazing venue! At least a 2.5 hour show! may have been closer to 3 hours. The band was amazing! Especially the guy from Barcelona on guitar, and the sax player!

I wrote down everything as they played it. (The only song that might be out of place is Closing Time, because I was writing in the dark balcony and I ran out of room because there were so many songs, so that song was written along the side.)

Dance Me To The End of Love
The Future
Ain't No Cure For Love
Bird on a Wire
Everybody Knows
In My Secret Life
Chelsea Hotel
Who By Fire
Waiting For the Miracle
Anthem

--Intermission

Tower of Song
Suzanne
Sisters of Mercy
Take This Waltz
Boogie Street
Hallelujah -- (standing ovation!)
I'm Your Man
1000 Kisses Deep (spoken)
Democracy

--Encore

So Long Marianne
First We Take Manhattan

--Encore

Famous Blue Raincoat
If It Be Your Will (he spoke the first part, then the two backing sisters sang it while playing harp and guitar. Probably the most gorgeous thing I've ever heard! people were crying!)
Closing Time

--Encore

I Tried To Leave You
Wither Thou Goest

The early admission thing was a pleasant surprise to us!
Thank you to whoever arranged that! :D
