Only registered members are able to post!!!
Dear Forum members
recently we have had too many postings from "Guests"
who obviously want to hide their identity. This has resulted
in a quite negative tone in some threads.
I have changed the parameters of this software so that
only registered members will be able to post and reply.
Registration takes only a minute so this should not be a
very big deal.
Tick the box "Log me in automatically each visit" and you
are constantly in! (No need to log-in when re-entering).
When coming back to the Forum you will find all new
messages if you click "View posts since last visit" (on the
right).
Guests are still able to enter the Forum and read the messages.
My request is that you use your own name when you register.
However, if this makes you feel uncomfortable you are able to use
also nicknames.
The photos of active Forum members are welcomed to the Gallery
of Beautiful Losers on the main site.

Registration.
Dear Jarkko, my own writing may be flawed and my opinions open to debate, but whatever I've written, through any medium, has always carried my own signature: pseudonyms and pseudo-"poetry" belong elsewhere, outwith this board. Yes, the forum should be critical, informative and fun too, and will continue to be so....I hope! But correspondents should think before committing themselves to print, and at least be honest.
The changes you have made to the forum have my full support.
Yours, Andrew.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Jarkko, I don't normally reply to my own message, but I forgot to ask you....how do "active forum members" get their mugshot on the "Beautiful Losers" section of the files? I have a scanner attached to my computer, but haven't a clue how to use it. I'm more used to sending material by "snail-mail", so if you give me an address ,I'll post you a photograph.
You can give me your address "off board" by e-mailing it to me, or advise computer illiterates (such as me ) how to do it electronically.
Yours, Andrew.

Easiest way would be to attach a .jpg scan of the photo
to your email. Scan your photo, then save it in the .jpg
format. Open a new email anc click first "Insert" then
"file" and enter the name you just gave to your photo.
If this does not work by all means use snail mail.

It's a shame that Jarkko has felt obliged to bar guests from posting, though I understand why he has done it. Unfortunately, it means that people will no longer be able to make witty comments under a guest pseudonym that adds to the humour. I always thought that added an extra liveliness to this site, and I am sorry to see it go.

Dear Jarkko,
Some things really are more amusing when written with a pseudonym.
(I do not include crude posts)
I'll give an example. Chuckles the clown, using the emoticon of a crying face, always posts a mournful reply. It's his pseudonym, Chuckles the clown, that lends a small measure of wit to the post itself.
And over on the "Poetry" section there has been a running joke that hinges on the pseudonym of several of the posters. What makes it so hilarious is that not one of the "poets" have caught onto it yet!
I have posted anonymously, using a pseudonym. But I have never been vulgar or obscene. Which is more than can be said of some of the "members".
I hope you will reconsider.
Cordially,
eeey

Jarkko's [your] response was mine as well. I made my immediate-response comment privately, however.
Since when does wit have to rely on hidden identities ~ though I understand what you're saying on that, eeey, regarding Chuckles the Clown. An option might be to sign it Chuckles the Clown, with a crying face, and accomplish the same effect.
It's the negative, mean-spirited, and abusive aspects of hidden identities that creates a problem. Multiple entries under different names to "garner forces," et al, with negativity ~ all that and more. The example you give for the poetry department sounds to be in the mean-spirited category....and not acknowledging something doesn't necessarily mean a person doesn't get it.
All good things,
Lizzytysh

It's just like PetiteTortue says - you can stay anonymous
even if you go through the registration first. Most of these
Forums have turned to obligatory registration for the same reason:
there are always persons who would misuse the total freedom.
Many Forums also require email identification before they give
out member rights (=they send the password to the email
address given by the registrant). I'm not going to use that
method.
In fact the previous emails of this thread are not about the real
reason why I felt that we have to make this a bit more organized.
I didn't find it necessary to tell about this but looks like people should know.
I have recently had to remove half a dozen really dirty postings
(describing various sexual minority activities in detail). I don't want to be a censor
but on the other hand this forum is not supposed to serve as
the home for perverts; they have to find their fun elsewhere.
Even if we require registration I still have to reserve the right to
remove messages that are totally impertinent or strong attacks
towards a person whose name is given. So far I have gone that far
only once (not counting the messages mentioned above) in a case
where the first poster of a thread wanted the whole thread to be
removed; in that case I made some edits after letting the persons
in question to know about it. But that was and will be an exception
to the rule!
I don't think this policy makes it much difficult to have fun on this board!
Finally, there is one more advantage with registration: thanks to it
we have the email address of the member; this gives us chance
to send also emails if we want to ask or tell something of more private
nature. Or suggest a trade of a rare Cohen item... Guests often left the
email field blank.

Dear Jarkko,
Thank you for your reply. But I want to make certain I understand correctly. You don't mind if I register as a "new" member? Repeatedly? Because I will not be able to resist doing so.
Although a caveat to others on the forum --- that does not mean every anonymous posting will be mine. Only the clever ones.
