International editions of BOL

Postby jarkko » Fri Jun 01, 2007 11:22 am

Krista Willis of McClelland & Stewart sent us a list of the next translations of Book of Longing:

1. Croatia (Publisher: VBZ): Spring 2007
2. Czech Republic (Publisher: Argo): September 2007
3. Greece (Publisher: Ianos): June 2007
4. Portugal (Publisher: Do Impensavel): January 2007/February 2008

As far as I know the Finnish edition will be published this Fall, too, by Sammakko.

1. Croatia (Publisher: VBZ): Spring 2007
Croatian translation missed the June deadline. Back then, I heard from the translator it's in print, but then the galleys had to be mailed to M&S for confirmation (I guess they're taking care that the layout and illustrations are the same as in the original edition).

National Book Fair is in second week of November, so I guess they're planning to publish it then.

Leonard is anyhow making the book season here - the translation of new edition of Nadel's book is on #5 of national non-fiction list of sales and more than 30% of circulation was sold out in July and August, in first 50 days.

Yes, you must have done a fine job of translation, Tom. The proof is in the pudding, they say 8) .

Croatian edition of the Book of Longing is out today. I still don't have it, but it's in big paperback format (wider than the original), 20 Euros. It's also still not on publisher's site or in bookshops; I saw it in windowshop of publisher's office. More in next few days.

Still longing for The Book of Longing here...:-)

BoL is translated by Ioanna Abramidou and one of the prevalent greek titles is "Το βιβλίο της καρτερικής επιθυμίας"
It sounds good to me:-)

No, we could have many "single" words for "longing" :) But I like these two words together :)
We'll wait a little more for the definite title!

Sophia

Translated by Ioanna Abramidou, bilingual edition, 472 pages, price 22 Euros. I'll have photos soon. Happy at last! :D

Hi Sophia
What great news, I am happy for you.
We are celebrating Easter here with the much enjoyed four day weekend and I am missing my Greek neighbours (I have moved from inner city Melbourne) who would always visit me with coloured eggs and pastries around this time of year.

Sophia, thanks for the info. I added it to the B.of L. editions at
http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/boflg.html
Please let me know the binding: paperback or hardcover
Also a better scan of the cover art would be appreciated at some point!

The (European) French edition should be available any day now. Last month we finally got the Finnish version!
