Re: The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees 1986-Present
That sure is a list of rock and roll history right there. Anyone wanting a lesson in such a subject should look no further than this list for starters. Rock and Roll 101.
I still find it funny that R.E.M. made it last year. I mean, they were big when I was a kid. The Ronettes were from the '60s, Patti Smith and Van Halen mostly the '70s and early '80s... I feel like I'm getting old now!! I guess I really ought to worry when the bands I listened to in junior high make the list. That was my "current alternative rock" phase. Damn... it is an impressive list though.

If you feel like you're getting old now, wait until next year. Yes. One impressive list. Many of which should have made it long ago. The Ronettes??? I saw that. Man, they were big, well, a very long time ago. I was surprised that there was anyone left alive. I haven't read the entire thread (as usual), I'm just passing thru, but it always surprises me when these lists come out. Makes me think of the 'P' word, as in payola. Many should have been inducted 'years' and 'years' ago, then 'new'' 'groups (relatively) as you pointed out, suddenly pop up. It makes no sense. Could be the median age of the voters - they've probably forgotten (or never knew) who the Ronettes et. al. were. But, REM, sure, they were on the jukebox just a few (well 15 years) ago.
See ya,
Linda.
Strange that Bobby Darrin, The Who and Simon and Garfunkel all made it in the same year.

From the selections you and Jason have just cited, it seems they may intentionally[?] go for a broadness and spanning of time and style with their inductees each year.

YG,
I can hear you biting your nails from way over here. Keep calm, it WILL happen (I saw it in my crystal ball).
