Thanks Tony. I am familiar with TR's song Touch of Evil (a classic!) but had not seen the overlay of the song and movie video clip before. That is awesome.
On the same album is another song 'Where the Dream Begins' which I suspect is loosely autobiographical and parallel's Tom Russell's life until that point, but I cannot be sure.

I don't have the Anthology collection but have almost all of the songs in it.

That is a very wistful song, Kush. Very enjoyable too. You might be interested in this live performance of 'The Pugilist at 59.' He refers to Muhammad Ali in 'Where the Dream Begins' and by way of juxtaposition he refers to Leonard Cohen in the introduction to this song with a boxer in the title. He is singing in Cleveland and mentions a Leonard Cohen concert at Phoenix. He even sings a few bars of 'The Tower of Song.'

Hi Tony,

I have the EP outtake release of TR's cover of Tower of Song (from Love and Fear) - a favorite and so is The Pugilist at 59. Love and Fear is a masterpiece and in my opinion far better than Love and Theft (as good as that is !)

I recently got TR's new album Rose of Roscrae. Haven't quite got into it except in fragments...

They say trouble rides a fast horse
They say forgiveness rides a mule
Oh yeah they say a lot of things
That's why I live by my own rules
You know a man is seen in fragments
A scar lip, tattoos and broken teeth
Scratch the surface on most men out here
You will see two men hiding underneath

Hello Kush. Thanks for posting those links. Those videos were marvellous. The Rose of Roscrae overture is fantastic with both the scenery and the the music. I shall be watching it again once I have sent this posting. I have yet to buy the cd but it is top of my list.

I see from Tom Russell's Facebook page that he has caught up with that clip of 'A Touch Of Evil' that I mentioned here in an earlier post

Last night I was watching the Texas Tornados singing 'Haley's Comet.' It must be from a few years back as Doug Sahm and Freddy Fender are playing. Some familiar names there in the group. The song shows how fickle life and fame can both be.

Thanks for the link. Always love watching the Texas Tornados, especially Flaco Jimenez doing his thing. I think Augie Meyers was/is long time member of Dylan's band.
So Tom Russell is prolific facebook poster of youtube links to all kinds of music, his own and others ! Ha ..I feel a little better about my compulsions :D

I am just getting into the Rose of Roscrae album - it is very long !!

Here's a couple of his songs done by others

Manzanar by Tom Paxton with historical video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqd-Kh_zpdA

Reading of Stealing Electricity by Lawrence Ferlinghetti on the Tom Russell tribute album..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuhvFzWHXsE

p.s. G--gle is the all knowing and omnipresent being...Bob Dylan on Augie Meyers
"Augie's my man. He's like an intellectual who goes fishing using bookworms. Seriously though, he's the shining example of a musician, Vox player or otherwise, who can break the code. His playing speaks volumes. Speaks in tongue actually. He can bring a song, certainly any one of mine, into the real world. I've loved his playing going all the way back to the Sir Doug days when he was featured and dominant. What makes him so great is that internally speaking, he's the master of syncopation and timing. And this is something that cannot be taught. If you need someone to get you through the shipping lanes and there's no detours, Augie will get you right straight through….Augie's your man."

I enjoyed those links, Kush. Talking of Flaco Jimenez here he is on a Dwight Yoakam track, "Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room," a longtime favourite of mine.

Pete Anderson on the guitar combines well with him.

Thanks Tony. I have seen that video before but it is always a pleasure to see it again. As you say, the accordion and guitar combines very well indeed. I saw Flaco Jimenez play at a festival in San Antonio many years ago.
The Dwight Yoakam video led me to some other Texas Tornados videos ...

Thanks for the links, Kush. I always enjoy the accordion playing especially. I was in the south of France last year and saw a group in the local town square one summer evening with a marvellous accordion player. She was so full of enthusiasm and energy. It was just a free concert but it was one of the best performances I have ever seen. I hope they are there again this year.

On Tom Russell's Facebook page he has recently posted a link to 'Haley's Comet.' He did it earlier with 'Touch of Evil.' I know he is a LC fan so perhaps he has been peeping in here!

Today on Tom Russell"s Facebook page there is a very gracious comment by him of the time when he met Leonard Cohen. Also a comment on when he attended a Leonard Cohen concert in Norway.

Thanks for bringing up Tom Russell's facebook page again - he posts a treasure trove of great music on it. And he has always been very gracious about Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as well.

Am listening to some Tom Russell as I go about some chores this Sunday morning....
