Erasing women from the history of music
I (he said, declaring vested interest like any good Boy Scout) have been doing some freelance work for the publisher Aurora Metro. Their book Women make noise: Girl bands from Motown to the Modern has some fascinating and shocking things to say about how women and their music have been marginalised, and includes evidence of a sexist culture in music that is still dismayingly pervasive. http://www.supernovabooks.co.uk/womenmakenoise.html

P.S. and apologies for the somewhat onanistic act of self-reply; if there are any music critics out there interested in a review copy, please message me or e-mail davidlbirkett@hotmail.com.
