Hi,
Tom T. Hall wrote the song "Harper Valley PTA." Jeanie C. Riley's 1968 recording of the song was a huge success.
Some people abroad may not be familiar with "PTA." It's the abbreviation for Parent-Teacher Association.
Peyton Place is mentioned in the song. It is the title of a novel and a soap opera.
For anyone who has ever been plagued by self-righteous hypocrites (haven't we all?), here's a link to a YouTube video
of Jeannie C. Riley performing "Harper Valley PTA": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOZPBUu7Fro.

Re: "Harper Valley PTA"
Hi Steven,
That is one of my favorite all time songs - I heard it a long time ago it has always stayed with me , probably because being judgmental is one of my pet peeves (but I am sure I do it just as much ). Dolly Parton also has a great version of this song but Jeannie Riley is the one who made it famous.
Couple of other songs on similar lines is Hank Williams Be Careful of the Stones you Throw

and Dolly Parton's Backwoods Barbie

Nice to know that people still listen to Tom T. Here are two of my favourites of his.

Kush, I like the links.
Tony, both songs are touching. Here's a link to another, "Blackberry Dreams":

Thanks, Steven. I really enjoyed the song. As they say, 'They don't make 'em like that any more.'

They are right, in our opinion. Said those exact words to someone riding along with me on an evening that
a country station was in their classics format. "Country" now is mostly a Southern U.S. rock-pop watered down
kind off thing. Also said, "It doesn't get better than this" about the classics. But, the people buying country records today would mostly disagree. -- It's a younger more visually oriented audience whose ears are more attuned to the manufactured
sound of the music that they hear.
