Nice. They are kindred spirits, musically.
Re: Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger
These two great performers are also among the group that consistently 'connect' with their audience - never a bad concert between them.

Re: Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger
I was listening to Bob Seger and remembered this thread. I have only one album of Bob Seger and it is one of my most listened to albums. There are many of life's lessons in this album. Not a bad song on it. Time for me to get more Bob.
The Fire Inside
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5XsDMXFPAI
There's a hard moon risin' on the streets tonight
There's a reckless feeling in your heart as you head out tonight
Through the concrete canyons to the midtown lights
Where the latest neon promises are burning bright
Past the open windows on the darker streets
Where unseen angry voices flash and children cry
Past the phony posers with their worn out lines
The tired new money dressed to the nines
The low life dealers with their bad designs
And the dilettantes with their open minds
You're out on the town, safe in the crowd
Ready to go for the ride
Searching the eyes, looking for clues
There's no way you can hide
The fire inside
Well you've been to the clubs and the discotheques
Where they deal one another from the bottom of a deck of promises
Where the cautious loners and emotional wrecks
Do an acting stretch as a way to hide the obvious
And the lights go down and they dance real close
And for one brief instant they pretend they're safe and warm
Then the beat gets louder and the mood is gone
The darkness scatters as the lights flash on
They hold one another just a little too long
And they move apart and then move on
On to the street, on to the next
Safe in the knowledge that they tried
Faking the smile, hiding the pain
Never satisfied
The fire inside
Fire inside
Now the hour is late and he thinks you're asleep
You listen to him dress and you listen to him leave
Like you knew he would
You hear his car pull away in the street
Then you move to the door and you lock it when
He's gone for good
Then you walk to the window and stare at the moon
Riding high and lonesome through a starlit sky
And it comes to you how it all slips away
Youth and beauty are gone one day
No matter what you dream or feel or say
It ends in dust and disarray
Like wind on the plains, sand through the glass
Waves rolling in with the tide
Dreams die hard and we watch them erode
But we cannot be denied
The fire inside
The precursor to Springsteen, his influence on The Boss is obvious. Even though Springsteen arguably stole his thunder, Bob Seger holds his own with a devoted fan base. And reposting Steven's original link (expired) on youtube, Bob Seger shows a genuine pleasure playing with the younger (slightly!) Springsteen. Rare to see such uninhibited pleasure on stage.

Hey Kush,
Interestingly, I’ve been recently re-discovering Bob Seger too. Even though I like some of his rock songs, I’ve been mainly going for his acoustic and more melodious ones because I’ve been learning them on the violin. I’m working on these at the moment – Against The Wind, We’ve Got Tonight, No Man’s Land, Somewhere Tonight, Loves The Last To Know, The Ring, Like A Rock, The Long Way Home, The Long Goodbye, No More, Wait For Me. All great songs for whatever reason
Somewhere Tonight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et2rIomh9as
btw .... I often wonder how Bob arrived at the name of one of his albums "Beautiful Loser"

Hi Kush,
Influence, yes. Probably also some commonality of their internal drivers (no car pun intended).

Re: Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger
That's a great song B4. I have heard only The Fire Inside album of his, and a whole lot of the Fire Inside album for the seven years or so that I have had it. I know each line and note inside out, like in my younger days when I had only a few albums so I would hear them over and over and knew every note inside out. Nowadays though I have so many albums and listen to so much, the quality of my listening experience has diminished. This album is one of the very few exceptions. Against the Wind is another song of his that I am familiar with having heard the Highwaymen's version of it.

Bob Seger may have come across Beautiful Loser by way of Leonard Cohen or it might have been a commonality of internal driver (nice phrase Steven, I might adopt it!). I suspect it was probably more of the former and some of the latter.

Hi Kush,
You must have ESP! I was just listening to those songs last night! Also I forgot to add "Shame On The Moon" to my violin list.
I love the way it starts, and in fact, love all of it. These lines are pertinent:
"Some men go crazy
Some men go slow
Some men go just where they want
Some men never go"
It’s a great song written from a man’s point of view about love and the thoughts in his head.

On another tangent I also like "Manhattan".
It’s not your typical Seger song, more like a Dylan one. It tells a story and has a great beat. The music enhances and completes the whole scene.

But seeing this thread is about both Bob and Bruce I found a couple more duets:
Bob Seger’s jam with Bruce Springsteen at Madison Square Garden 11th Dec 2011 was a long overdue reunion for the pair, who previously provided some unforgettable concert memories for Michigan concert-goers more than 30 years ago during Springsteen’s 1980 appearance in Ann Arbor at the Chrysler Arena.http://ultimateclassicrock.com/bob-sege ... teen-duet/
Thunder Road duet

Bob Seger hoping for duet album with Bruce Springsteen

..... and if that ever happens it would for sure be a great album!

Re: Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger
Thanks B4real I only now got around to hearing these great links. Manhattan actually reminds me of the style in Springsteen's The Wild The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle.
Enjoyed Shame on the Moon and on a subsequent link Rodney Crowell has done a great cover version as well. Here is a live version of Hollywood Nights in 1978 - long hair and hippie style!

I think I'll make a compilation of all these great songs like I have done with a few other artists. Yes I hope that Springsteen - Seger album materializes. But first I want to see a Leonard Cohen - Sonny Rollins album !

Re: Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger
Rodney wrote Shame On The Moon ... here is another song with a moon reference that Seger covered in the 80's ...Kush wrote:Rodney Crowell has done a great cover version as well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMbBYL6bvOI'
while Seger was waiting to release it then, Rod Stewart had a hit with this Tom Waits song so it was some time later that Seger updated the recording and put it out ... according to Seger, he had mentioned recording the song to Stewart, Rod recorded it and released it ...
BTW, Rodney and Emmylou Harris are currently touring together and well worth seeing ... on their joint album and in concert, Emmylou does a cover of this song with a Springsteen connection:

... one of many fine songs from Rumble Doll (1993) ...
Re: Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger
Indeed he did Eskimo, I stand corrected. Thanks.
Yes I have Rodney Crowell and Emmylou Harris new CD, their voices blend perfectly.
