Re: Nevermind no bench ... what about ...???

i just thought I would mention that the Le Mans 24 Hours is on during our 'Bench Free' weekend. I mentioned this personal sacrifice to Ann and she replied "And so?"
Please, no tears, I am shocked that she doesn't understand what I'm forgoing for Leonard!

Re: Hydra update: no bench in June??

Bench or no bench, it's vital to carry on, in support of Jarkko, the architect and the Hydra mayor etc, not to mention the well being of the forum and respect for Leonard of Hydra. 'We all have the sort of person who's objected to the bench seat and public access in our communities, we call them NIM...

To Tour Again, or Not.

Time it was, oh what a time it was … whoops, that’s not quoting Cohen, that’s some bloke called Simon! Oh well, it fits my whiskey-laden musing – the all-time greatest Leonard Cohen band. Like so many of us, I’ve been lucky to see many, but by no means all, of Cohen’s bands / on stage backers ... an...

Cohen's Polish on the Problem of Being Popular

Of recent times – well, since somewhere 'round '67, I've rushed to the release of a Cohen album. There has never been disappointment, 'though occasionally time was of the essence in the ephemeral art of interpretation. 'Old Ideas ' was perhaps the most difficult for me, although the bobbing banjo ap...

Did Leonard Propose to Clare?

There's a lovely quote in The Weekend Australian Magazine, (July 12-13, 2014) from the singer, Clare Bowditch (she toured with Leonard in Oz a couple of years back). She's asked: "Is it true Leonard Cohen proposed?" She replies" I was touring with him a couple of years ago and he was ...

Ahh ... Vienna!

Ann and I wanted to let friends on the Forum know of our wonderful meet-up in Vienna with Marina and Faridon, we had a simply marvellous time, old friends in two minutes, amazing! But of course, it's like that with Cohenites and Forum members all over the world, long may it continue. I'Ve posted in ...

Re: Thank You

Salutations dear people Thank you so much for your lovely comments on my review of Leonard's Perth concert, it means a lot to me (like the banjo for Lenny!). We have had a marvellous time, not just with the concert, but also in meeting and breaking bread and drinking wine with Gery and Aad (from Hol...

The lazy 79 year old bastard in a suit still gives great gig

Cohen's back in the Land Down Under and the Land of the Long White Cloud and if anything, the concert is more sublime than ever. The opening gig in Perth was a gentle affair, somehow more musically precise than before, there was a clarity of instruments and voice, giving the feel of a classical musi...

It's a little too late (2.00am) to write a concert report, however here's a link to a Facebook album:

Re: A lovely Poignant Tale

A little story for fellow Cohenites - we have a much loved friend, Veronica, who has been battling breast cancer for the past 12 years - imagine 12 years of almost weekly chemotherapy! She came to the first of the new concerts (at Sandalford Winery back in 2009), but on the day of the 2010 Perth con...

Re: Celebrating Oz Style

Well we had a great 'night before the concert' last night, with Gerry and Aad from Holland and Christelle from France, plus fellow Perth-based Cohenites - close friends, who happen to be Dutch - Kate and Karin. Gery and Aad, gave us wonderful t-shirts, courtesy of Mandy and the Amsterdam Concert but...

Re: Lenny and the band way out West.

Yep, Lenny and the band are now in the most isolated city in the world - Perth! In Oz, people from Sydney and Melbourne call it "That place across the desert," a local term for the Nullarbor Plain, similar to how Aussies and Kiwis talk about each country as being "Across the ditch,&qu...

Re: Perth Meet-Up (Wed 13th)

It seems apart from some close friends who are Cohen aficionados, Gery & son (from Holland) and Christelle (from France), I haven't heard from anybody else who would like to be involved in a Perth pre-concert meet-up, so at the moment, quality, not quantity is very much to the fore! However, if ...

Perth Meet-Up (Wed 13th)

Salutations gentle folk As you know, we are to be blessed once more with Lenny and the band's presence in Perth, down under. Bloody fantastic!! As only an Aussie, or Kiwi could say and get away with. Ann and I are going … of course … we wouldn't be together if it wasn't for Leonard's music and The F...
