Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Who is he addressing in the lines, "If I didn't have your love to make it real?" It does seem to be a bit out of line with the other songs, since it is decidedly "undark." Any thoughts on this? I agree Vicki. To me too it seems the odd one out. It seems to date from an earlier era when he thought h...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

DBCohen I went through all the lyrics and tried to decide, looking at the vocabulary used, what each one was primarily 'about'. I came up with six categories - relationships, spirituality (this was the best term I could come up with for a variety of belief systems), addiction, music, ageing and one ...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Or being really greedy, an extra track in the form of an uptempo Happens to the Heart... we can dream!! I think we will get Happens To the Heart, on the album after the orchestral one, God willing (to use Leonard's phrase). I imagine a scenario where these two will be released within the next 18 mo...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

With regards to 'On The Level', it's most likely not intentional but in light of his health problems making the album, the phrase 'turned my back' could be a rather literal, causal one. Every time I play it, I see Leonard in his medical chair, immobile. It's the same but on a much more visceral leve...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Here's a new Rolling Stone piece, which offers a few new crumbs - the tastiest of which is that there are at least 3 songs which could go on the next album... Perhaps 'Happens To The Heart' is one?

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

"I just can't believe the static coming on You were my ground-my safe and sound You were my aerial." I'm not quite sure why but this verse just sounds awkward and forced to me.The lyrics on the entire album are perfect but this verse sounds like it doesn't belong there. It's one of the best, most n...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Does anyone else hear a creation story in Steer Your Way? Steer your path through the pain That is far more real than you That smashed the cosmic model That blinded every view And please don’t make me go there Tho’ there be a god or not Year by year Month by month Day by day Thought by thought They...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

I like how he sings 'fart by fart' in 'Steer Your Way'' Where in the song do you hear this? I've listened and I don't hear anything close. Maybe if your speakers aren't very detailed or muddy sounding you might think you're hearing this but on a decent set of speakers you can clearly hear thought b...

Re: The Darker album: Interviews and reviews in the media

Not sure if this has been posted before, but here's KCRW's broadcast of the press release - interesting in that we get Leonard reciting his short piece about the hummingbird which was referenced in the New Yorker article. http://www.kcrw.com/music/shows/chris-douridas/in-conversation-with-leonard-co...
