My Dream "Songs of Leonard Cohen" Concert

About 30 years ago I imagined a Leonard Cohen tribute event in London. My fantasy was to have it at the ICA in Pall Mall, where Leonard gave a poetry reading on the day after his first London concert, and to ask Julie Felix and Felicity Buirski to perform. Miraculously, this vision manifested earlie...

R.I.P. Paul Buckmaster

Legendary arranger / conductor Paul Buckmaster has died. Many will remember him for his work on Leonard's "Songs of Love and Hate", Michael Chapman's "Fully Qualified Survivor", and for other artists such as Elton John and David Bowie. http://loudwire.com/legendary-arranger-composer-paul-buckmaster-...

R.I.P. Tom Petty

This is tragic news. Thinking how terrible this must be for the Webb Sisters, after completing their tour with him:

First Aid Kit - Leonard Covers

I may be wrong, but I don't think these Leonard covers by First Aid Kit and friends have appeared here. i met Klara from First Aid Kit at the Royal Albert Hall three years ago, and she said that she was seriously into Leonard's music: If it Be Your Will: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urAhbhakOIs W...

Re: Mingle With the Universe: The Worlds of Lord Byron by Eric Andersen

Hi Joe, I'm pleased to hear that you appreciate Eric's great album. I've no doubt that Eric's use of an oud player was influenced by Leonard, and Eric often wears a similar fedora to Leonard. However, the sleeve notes for Eric's "Violets of Dawn" compilation claim that Eric's song of the same name h...

Re: Hattie Webb Album Launch Show in London, 19th May

Hattie's album launch was a wonderful evening with 150 or more people turning-up for the event, despite it only being announced a couple of weeks beforehand. I arrived as early as possible to meet about a dozen different people that I'd recruited for the event. It was also great to see the whole of ...

Julie Felix at the Elgar Room (Royal Albert Hall) 27/5/17

Rare film of Julie was shown at the Elgar Room (Royal Albert Hall) on 27th May, and she sang five songs. In the same programme (part of the Summer of Love series) rare film was also shown of Led Zeppelin and the Stones. Here's a video of one Julie's songs from the film: https://www.youtube.com/watch...

Mingle With the Universe: The Worlds of Lord Byron by Eric Andersen

Here's my review, which I posted on Amazon UK tonight: In September 2015, I had the good fortune to attend a trial performance of Eric Andersen’s musical tribute to Lord Byron, at London’s intimate Green Note café. Here, he was joined by his violin accompanist Michele Gazich. This performance preced...

Re: Hattie Webb Album Launch Show in London, 19th May

Looking forward to seeing most of the people/artists who attended the London Leonard Cohen tribute at Hattie's album launch this evening at St James, Piccadilly (plus many who didn't). More than 100 people will be attending. Keep an eye on Hattie's Facebook page, as they will be attempting a live st...

Re: Hattie Webb Album Launch Show in London, 19th May

JJR - The album should be publicly available on June 3rd (Hattie's birthday).

At St James, there is usually vegetarian food available to buy after the event, and a chance to socialize for a while.
