Re: What Other Artists Have You Seen Live (since 2000)?

I'm so impressed by the amount of shows listed above (especially John's :!: )..my list is sadly very short, including: - Bob Dylan - Elvis Costello - Pearl Jam and some italians band/songwriters: - P.F.M. (maybe this one is also well-known in other Europe countries ) - Ludovico Einaudi - Marco Paren...

Re: Worst ever LC tracks

Returning to "Songs of Love and Hate", it would seem to be cheating to skip tracks on this. Clearly, Leonard didn't intend the album to be easy listening - it's more of a "wake-up call". You know this from the moment you see the cover, which shouts at you with its large letterin...

Re: Music You're Listening To

I sometimes find Tim Buckley challenging too, especially the late works (such as "Look at the fool")..but Goodbye & Hello, Happy Sad and Blue Afternoon (strictly in order of "vocal innovation" ;-) ) are masterpieces (the others are great albums however)..I really love "D...

Re: Worst ever LC tracks

Hi TGT, I've always thought that "Diamonds in the Mine" brings a bit of light (if that's the right work word!) relief, after "Dress Rehearsal Rag". For me it brings an element of dark humour and a change of tempo into an otherwise extremely intense album. I seem to remember that...

One of the very few LC songs I don't like is Diamonds in the mine...the atmosphere's too different from the others in SoLaH

Re: Artists similar to Leonard Cohen

What about Will Oldham (mentioned only once here)? I find the "I see a darkness" album deeply Cohen-ian. I love his voice here, its sense of dramaticity and soft bitterness.

Re: What is your favourite Cohen CD?

I just can't choose one between Songs of Leonard Cohen and Songs of Love and Hate to place at the top of the "chart", then Songs from a Room few steps behind. After that, "The Future" and "Various Position" at the close of the top 5

Re: The first note - how you found LC and how it affected you

I discovered LC simply thanks to a friend's suggestion...it was the end of 2004, and I bought a copy of "Songs of Leonard Cohen". When I first listened to "suzanne" and the voice came in, I felt every part of me trembling with the power of such tenderness. It was a very dark peri...

I know that after answering to this question I'll feel like Nick Hornby's Rob Fleming, questioned about his top 5 albums, and hurry to change my choices

- Famous Blue Raincoat
- Suzanne
- Joan of Arc
