Re: Toronto (June 6 to 9)

Here's an article by Andy Green that appeared in Rolling Stone. This writer just doesn't get Leonard Cohen. Or can't see beyond his own arrogance... http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/06/09/after-15-years-leonard-cohen-proves-hes-still-got-it-in-toronto/ Walking into the Sony Centr...

Re: Two concerts in Glace Bay, Cape Breton (May 20 and 21)

I may be hopelessly naive, but I think part of the reason Cohen came to the Atlantic Provinces was genuine generosity. He started with two shows in Halifax which sold out immediately. Then he added three more. I like to think that he played here as much as he did because he knew fans wanted to see h...

Re: Three concerts in St. John's (May 25 to 27)

I feel very grateful to have found a community who understand that communion with Leonard is indeed a spiritual experience! My friends appreciate him, but don't seem to experience the same bittersweet longing. Was it Anne who remarked on her "purple prose"? Sorry, can't remember now. At le...

Re: Three concerts in St. John's (May 25 to 27)

Seeing that beautiful B&W photograph, I think we'll have to add "vulnerability" to the recurring words used to describe Leonard. (Graciousness and humility seem often repeated.) This is part of what makes him so damn sexy! He is open to our love and reflects it back to us. There is abs...

Re: Five Concerts in Halifax (May 12 to 17)

Thanks for filling in those gaps, Tom. I guess all of us are a compilation of socialization, upbringing and DNA, so not much point in me trying to attribute Leonard's personality to any one thing!

Re: Five Concerts in Halifax (May 12 to 17)

I made an inexcusable presumption by attributing Leonard's lack of self-centredness to his time as a Zen practitioner at Mount Baldy. Checking the liner notes of the Field Commander Cohen Tour of 1979, Leonard's humbleness and deep appreciation for his audience and his band are very obvious at this ...

Thanks for posting this great review. St. John's is indeed fortunate to have "If It Be Your Will" added to the setlist. Have fun tonight!

Re: Five Concerts in Halifax (May 12 to 17)

I wanted to avoid comparing Dylan's bizarre concert to Leonard's gift of grace, but might was well weigh in since others have. I admire Dylan because he has never catered to his audience and had no intention of ever being "the voice of a generation" that we made him. This concert was a rea...

Re: Two concerts in Glace Bay, Cape Breton (May 20 and 21)

dispensed the ultimate Cohen accompaniment: booze! I was away for the weekend and delighted to return to all the fantastic photos of descriptions of the concerts. Thank you so much. I am still high off the Halifax show and actually missed the daily contact. It may interest Cheapwino to know that Le...

CONCERT REPORT: Moncton, NB (May 23)

Leonard and his band play to another sold-out audience at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on May 23. See his introduction on the Capitol website here: http://www.capitol.nb.ca/e/show_id.php?shwID=304 The theatre seats 800, so this promises to be another intimate experience. The...

Re: Five Concerts in Halifax (May 12 to 17)

....a lone woman in the crowd shouted "WOO HOOOO," cheering a pitiful little solo that had no right being cheered. Thanks so much to Rosemary's friend for his review of a great evening. It was completely spontaneous at the time, but in retrospect I cheered for love of this particular riff...

Re: Please, post the setlists...

I can definitively confirm setlist for Saturday, May 17 in Halifax for all but the first two songs, when I was waiting anxiously outside for tickets. But since these are the first two songs from all other setlists to date, I would propose we proceed with this list. I will try to find someone who att...
