John Bilezikjian

I just read on another forum (Mike's Oud Forum) that John Bilezikjian died on 19th January 2015. As forum member know John Bilezikjian was responsible for some of the most expressive instrumental contributions to Mr Cohen's work in the late 1970s and beyond. Vale a great artist. The Oud forum passed...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: Hobart, Australia, 15 November 2010

Dean, thanks for you detailed documentation of the show. I affirm all the things you mentioned and admire your notetaking. I had a good seat and my 'opera' glasses. What I really liked what the way Leonard gives his attention to the band. Through the glasses I could watch him and he was really absor...

CONCERT REPORT: Hobart, Australia, 15 November 2010

Hello, was there not Forum members among the 5000 at the Derwent Entertainment Centre? I was there, an expat Tasmanian who had to return 'home' to see Leonard. Does not seem to have been a great experience for the crew if the photo blog is to be believed. They arrived on a Sunday evening - well, yes...

Re: Tony Palmer presents "Bird on a wire"

Apparently it's appears that it is not set for release in Australia until November! Can anyone tell me if the UK version is 'all regions' or Region 2 only?

Re: AUSTRALIA AND NZ - PRESALE LINKS NOW AVAILABLE

Just got my ticket. Great to be going back home to Hobart to see Leonard. Never thought I'd see the day that I'd see Leonard in Tasmania! Used to play bouzouki in a Greek restaurant years ago (well early 1990s) in Hobart - mostly taverna music, but I managed to include Dance Me To the End of Love al...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

While I find the omissions from the DVD frustrating, I think the crew did a great job to be there at the end of 5 torrid days at 4am and still filming at all. How were they to know this would such a great, and in its own way, significant performance? I also accept that Mr Lerner is the filmaker and ...

Canberra and Hobart missed out on the last Australian tour. Good pinot noir and riesling can be found in Tasmania!

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

I'm inclined to believe this is all, or pretty much all the footage. There certainly seems to be a sustained gap in footage after Bird on the Wire until One of Us Cannot Be Wrong. Practically all the footage, except for the opening and Bird on the Wire, is from the second half of the concert. We see...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

The track breaks placed where they are is pretty standard technique, and you may come to appreciate it. If you just want to listen to the song then it helps, particularly if the intro is long. I think that is the tack they take. If you fast forward to a new track they assume you want to listen to th...

If you listen to the end of the version of Tonight Will Be Fine on Songs from a Room you can hear him whistling and playing hands.

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

Having been one of the voices lamenting the editing of Sing Another Song Boys, I do want to balance that with a real bouquet for the way Tonight Will Be Fine is done. This song seems to have been captured perfectly. We get a lot more camera angles than in other songs and appropriate edits that captu...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

I suspect the Sing Another Song Boys edit is going to be a long standing irritation for many of us. The evidence of the DVD does suggest that the available film just cuts out and there is no more. From where the first edit appears (where it jumps to the line "let's sing another song boys / this one ...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

On the theme of nitpicking and 'looking for something to criticize" my only other real irritation with the DVD is where introductions are matched with the wrong song. Most notably this occurs when in the DVD Cohen talks about it being late but perhaps this is good music to make love to which the fil...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

Waited until I watched it a second time to comment. I enjoyed it better the second time because on first viewing I was frustrated by what was missing. On the audio "You Know Who I Am" is, to me, a stand out performance and I wanted so much to see Leonard perform it (I'd readily give up Suzanne and H...
