Help me here. When I first read this I thought the Muse you were killing was a cat. Now I think I misread the second line. Pretty gruesome either way.

Thanks Laurie for all the hard work in judging the contest. A job well done.

P.S. and thanks to Lizzie for the hassle of gathering them all together.

This one is fantastic Byron. Real depth in lines that seem at first to float on the surface. Thanks.

Hot dog! I can't believe it. An honorable mention. I thought it might be too simple. I felt I needed a middle verse to tie it together better but I couldn't come up with anything. So it's a big surprise to me. Thanks for the kind words everybody.

From Leonard's speech at his induction to the Hall of Fame:

"If you knew how life dragged on--you'd write to me more often.."

Sounds like Old Love Letters is a serendipitous topic.

I respectfully disagree with you Laurie. It is much harder to write a good poem about a subject such as Love. As much as I liked the topic in the first contest "Seedy Hotel" it was much harder for me to write a poem for Joe's topic "Winter." Because it was so broad and could encompass so much you re...

Lizzytysh, You are right I think. But perhaps it would be better if the "vocal" participents weren't setting the parameters. The shyer ones might not be so crazy about either of our ideas. I think Lizzie Madder and Peter (is he the intermediary?) could come up with something exceptional. Charles. P....

On second thought, perhaps we should let the Judge come up with the topic or theme instead of those of us planning to participate. So scratch my idea.

I'm not wedded to my idea so anything is o.k. by me. Except for Community of the Mind. Sorry Byron. It makes me think of a mix of Scientology and Oprah. Lizzytysh, once again I didn't explain myself very well. My original idea was a poem about love and/or religion. Two of Leonard's great themes. It ...

The trouble I see with picking something Leonard wrote to be the inspiration for the contest is that you can't hardly help but be imitative. At least I can't. In the first contest, the theme was Seedy Hotel. (Your great idea :D) It was Leonardesque yet the writer could improvise much more freely not...

Hi Lizzytysh,

Whoops. I didn't phrase that too well did I? Guess I'm just trying to take the easy way out and get everything over with in one fell swoop.

Your suggestion is interesting. But I think I would just end up a very pale imitation of Leonard and we certainly don't want that.
